    Cool TR: Verbier 16/01/2006 - 20/02/2006

Ok, some of you might have allready seen this on Ttips but here's annual short report from my last years summer holiday I kept quite recently

Again me and some of my friends from my local skiing group www.laskikymppi.com rented a chalet from Verbier and had a nice month of skiing and doing what people usually do during holidays, taking it easy.

Actually, this year we rented a chalet from Le Chable, which is a village on the bottom of the valley the Verbier stands on. However you can easily get to the Verbier by cable car and since it's not a problem. Also from Le Chable you have easier access to some other resorts nearby so nothing bad there. We started our trip by car from Oulu, Finland and after 2 days we we're there. It had snowed about 30cm during the past days so we had a nice start right on the first days we arrived. We spent some days in back of Mt.Fort and also visited few days in Bruson. The basic like getting used to the altitude while hiking etc.

After the most common places to get some powder were taken we made some daytrips to the direction of Rosa Blanche and found something nice there. Not exactly pow but still soft and clean..

My friend Harri having fun with one board.

At some point of the first week (friday or saturday I guess) there was a small party at the Pub and there I met also Hemas and Yuqi. A nice surprise even I have to admit that memories from the later part of the evening are not so fresh..

During the second week of our trip we had really sunny weather and no fresh pow in Verbier. However one storm went pretty close and so we loaded our car full of Pekka's and headed to direction of Saas Fee and there we had a really nice day between the slopes of smaller resort Saas Almagel. The snow was perfect but still we found some rocks beneath the all white fluf..

Jussi having a blast in Saas Almagel.

After this we made some daily trips to here and there in Verbier area but most of the snow was allready a bit chunky or even corn and also rocks started to get the best of us or atleast best of our skis. We even had some days practicing fake skiing in the slopes and some 180's etc in park while checking the weather reports and radar pics eagerly every evening. Then one night it started to rain in the village, finally! Perhaps it is snow up there..

Next morning it was sunny and all our friends were sure that there's nothing out there. But we went up and really had a blast!

    Me at behind of Mt.Fort.

My friend Teemu, going to the the "sign stone" from below the Super Bowl.

We told our friends about their huge mistake during the Pubs happy hours and were really stoked of the days skiing. They were quite sad since since they had stayed in bed and kept a day off skiing. But next comes the best part: during the next night it happened again! Morning bluebird and really good snow again and we just skied the basic routes with a handful of other people. Nice. During these days it dumped about 60cm to top and the weather got unusually cold and snow stayed perfect quite a while. So the last weeks of the trip we kept searching places where snow was still good and had some really good days.

Teemu and a parallel turn with tele equipment

During the last two weeks we also had some big parties and some minor accidents but nothing serious and we had a lot of fun!

Of course during the last few days of our stay in the hood it started to dump and we just got some small joys from Bruson. The day we started our journey back to Finland the snow was falling big time. We were wondering whether to stay still few days or leave back home, and decided to start our journey since the visibility was very poor and it was really storm up there. We still had a 2 day driving to do..

Again nice summer holiday well spent. Bigger versions of the pics are at my folder in Tele photos if interested but that's it. Perhaps again next year..

Yeap. This year we didn't have it so deep but it was fun nevertheless.

Btw, perhaps when I'm old I'll be skinning my way up there in neon-tights and too light & skinny skis because every year it just is more and more fun to be able to spend some time in mountains..
