Anybody been to Exuma, Bahamas? Looks like a fun place with good "bonefishing" and nice beaches. Also looks like a few rental houses are available unlike a few other islands around. Any feedback? And NO I didnt run a search, cuz I am lazy...

The Berry Islands ... Bahamas
Not casino-ee, small island feel, awesome flats for bonefishing, deep holes for true A+ fishing as well (check it out on an ocean topo, perfect spot - toungue of the ocean) ... tiny island, huge stoke.
Been there several times. The island has an amazing history and awesome beaches, you can sea kayak to your own island spot!
PM me if you want more beta. Board members, keep this spot secret k.![]()

Oh, if you go ask for Stinky ... he's an awesome guide/local/hook/partier etc.
I went to Staniel Cay with my family a while ago, and it's one of the most memorable trips I've been on.
It's not like anywhere else in the Bahamas, especially in terms of comercialization; few (if any) hotels, not many tourists, etc., but this is a good thing. When we went we rented a small house that had just the basics: bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, boat, and golf-cart. Not a lot of cars or paved roads on the island, so a golf cart was sufficient. We flew to Nassau first, then took a cessena to the island because the air-strip was tiny.
We spent most of our time on the boat, cruising around and exploring different islands. Every day was spent on a different unihabited island, with a perfect beach and true peace and quiet. I really cant imagine anything better.
Exploring the island was also really interesting - we were the only tourists on an island of <250 people, and the locals were all hospitable. They invited us to have thanksgiving dinner on the town common, every family helped out, whether they made food, played music or whatever, it was a really beautiful thing.
So if you want a true bahamian cultural experience in untouched lands, the exumas are the place. It's not a luxurous destination by any means, but if you aren't going for that, then you will love it.

I used to captain a 54' Bertram, the owner was a member of the Chub cay club, so we used to spend one weekend a month in the Berry islands.
You review is accurate but he's probably better off going to Exuma. I think it's honeymoon thing.
Exuma=bigger island=more to do=happier significant other
Depending on where you stay, there's even some decent fishing from shore.
Take as many fly's as you can so you don't have to buy them there.$$$

He's also working towards being able to offer a bbq course but is awaiting the arrival of summer and approval from the purchasing comittee for a proper wood burning smoker.

I am not really a "professor" but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night..... BTW LB: I am thinking of expanding the course offerings and doing a seminar on 101 polenta and pork chop recipes. Only need about 75 more....
As for the topic, Exuma looks really cool since their are some homes/cottages for rent. Having a tiny bit of a town would be nice and so George Town has caught my eye. However since all we plan on doing is sitting and relaxing, walking on the beach, laying in the sun (and some drinking). Exuma just keeps sounding better and better. Some of the smaller Cays would be cool, but we kind of want to get some place and just stay in one place for the whole time. Thanks everybody for the info and if there is more, keep it coming.

I go to the out islands every year. I like Elbow Cay in the Abaco's because there is more to do. The fishing and diving are great and there is a decent surf break. The islands are close together, so you can cruise around and visit lots of different settlements.
