    What would you do? v.skimounting

I just picked up a pair of skis, 04/05 scratch fs that have been drilled once before. so here's my dilemma.

the previous mount pattern is almost exactly perfect for my boot and bindings.... previous mount was 327 solly 900S... i am 325 on solly 914ti. This would be great except for teh fact that the ski was drilled almost dead center (approx 2cm fore of the 'modern' line).

I want these skis primarily for steeps and moguls with the occassional trip to the park. As it stands now, i think they may be mounted too far forward for this type of skiing, so here are my options.

For one, i could put a little glue into the current holes and just mount the 914s myself. I'll give the skis a try and see how it goes... if i like them i'll keep them the way they are, if i don't like it, well... you see wehre this is going.

The other option is to just take them to shop and have them redrilled as per their recommendation.

So here are my questions. Is a near center mount too far forward for big bumps? and Is there any disadvantage to first mounting myself and trying them out as they currently are?

    Thanks,
    gp

Just screw on your binders (use some glue just to lube the thread) and see how they do. If you like em-great, if not, take them to the shop and have them mount them where you like. I suspect that with bumps you'll want them a little behind center. If you don't feel like shelling out for the mount, you've got the hole patttern on the ski already. Put a straight line between the holes, and use a protractor (right angle) to measure the drill points further back. be careful not to drill through the ski (use a step bit or a press)
Have fun, don't stress (Oh yeah, get some plastic plugs from your local shop and hammer them into the old holes -use a little silicone glue to make sure nowater gets in) You can dril skis a bunch before they get weak, just keep the water out.

Try them as they arew with your 914's. If the heel pattern has 5 holes, make sure you plug this 5th hole to prevent water getting to the core. V.v.v.important.

See how you get on with them. Its likely you will need to redrill but its a good way of getting a feel for differently positioned skis. It will help you make decisions like this in the future.

Use it as a learning exercise.

so if i was going to mount the 914s, i would just drip in some elmer's glue and screw them in the existing holes, correct? then just adjust the binding pressures, etc.

is there anything more to it?

also, do i need a special screwdriver for the bindings screws? it seems that all of my screwdrivers aren't shallow enough. would a regular tool store have a proper screwdriver?

there are flat headed phillips #3 screw drivers, those work, but a pozi #3 is prefered...

screw in, don't spin the screws, adjust bindings, go ski

i just picked up the #3 flat phillips, it seems to hold pretty snugly. i also picked up some white glue and some water-based caulk/glue... should i just put a drop of this in the screw and then screw in?

also, what do you mean by "don't spin the screws"... not to strip them?

    thx.
