    JONG mp3/audio file kwestion

What program (s) do I need to convert audio files off cd to mp3 files? Bought my girlfriends daughter an mp3 player for christmas, they aren't hooked up to the web at her house (yeah, I did a double take also) and she wants to put music from her cd's onto the player. The software that came with it had Winamp and some other player on it, but looked like you had to hook to the net to get conversion programs. Any reccomendations/suggestions?

I'm no help to her...hell I still own a box of 8-tracks...anyone got a player?

Ha! I found it easier to download mp3s than find a CD ripping program. You can look at www.download.com but most CD rippers/mp3 converters cost money.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.

You will need what is called a cd ripper.

the link below is a search in google for you.

I have done it before and it isn't to hard.
I just download mp3's now it is much easier and less hassle for me

CDex is a good free ripper program. Google for it.

iTunes will do it. Just be sure to set it up to rip into mp2 instead of aif or whatever bullshit format it comes standard with. also, musicmatch will do it, though i'm not sure if they put mp3 ripping only in the paid version this time around (it's been awhile since I used it)

itunes is the easiest and has the best GUI.

Yea, just download iTunes and burn it to a CD or something and take it over to her house and install it. Definitely the easiest way. However, you need an internet connection to get track info (so that the song filenames and ID2/3 tags have the song title/artist/album/etc. info), and it's really annoying to put in all the info for each track manually. Maybe you should just rip all her CDs at your place... with an internet connection all the filenaming is automatic and you can probably rip everything in one day or a few nights.
