B4's too fat for public/Keystone = gaper central???

My two friends are up here in Keystone skiing while I do homework. One is demo'ing some new B4's and my other friend is skiing on my old B3's, both 94 underfoot. Granted, the conditions are shitty, and they may be a BIT too much girth for maching groomers, but I was appalled at my friends' reports that they have heard at least five separate times today "DAMN THOSE ARE SOME FAT ASS SKIS! WHY DON'T YOU JUST FREAKING SNOWBOARD?"

Apparently one of these outbursts came from a liftie. What the hell is wrong with these people? Have they never seen a 110-waist ski before? Have they never seen someone on pocket rockets on a hardpack day?

I think I have heard this from one gaper in my 10 or so days on my B3's this year (four of which were at Keystone), but five times in a day? Is it just to be expected from Keystone, or are maggot-standard all-mountain skis (let's not have a discussion on how noodly they are...) a new stigma in the 10-day-a-year Denverite's eyes?

    Silly.

Eh what? I'm not "denying coreness" to racers or people who like to ride mid-fats, I just think it's silly to balk at 94 mm. I love my B3's as I feel like I can blast through anything with them (although I haven't been on V-pro's or Bro's or anything even remotely stiff by the board's standards). I don't ride them to be "fucking gnarradsickcoreradski brah!!!!!" I ski on them because I like them. When I can ski of course...

That post was more or less completely irrelevant to this thread...

I was just about to say the SAME thing as Z. Here's my thought exactly, "Dude, it's KEYSTONE!" The majority (not all) of the people who ski there don't understand the true meaning of skiing.

I suppose it's just been so long. :tear:

Wish I could take out my new P40's that I got for 25 bucks. I really really want to go really fast right now. At Keystone, nonetheless, irrespectivegardless of comments from dick-wavers who wouldn't dare be caught on skis skinnier than 80 mm.

Did your friends look like gapers? I'm thinking, the more hardcore you look, the less people talk to you.

    Keystone is t3h suck...

nobody should ever have fat skis there...

but i wouldn't know anything about that:

Or two days ago... when I was skiing a foot of sugary soft pow while listening to gapers scraping ice 50ft away...

Here are the official skis of Keystone:

    Get with the program.

Don't ski at Keystone. It is lame. Go away. Keep out.

I was just thinking about that question. I switched to wide skis before, and even though it seems like this is the longest we've gone without new snow, there's no reason why I would ski less than 85 mm as my everyday ski. My mantras still work on groomers...granted they're not as quick edge to edge but they can still carve on ice. Plus fat skis rock whenever there's any soft snow. I guess that shows my bias towards powder, but I would rather have a ski ill-equipped for groomers and well equipped for the soft stuff.

Once you go fat you never go back.

How does it feel to be pwn3d daily, AKPM? I've sorta wondered this but wanted to verify the trend before asking. I bet it doesn't feel good...

MacDaddy it was difficult to determine how deeply to interpret your post... Good splanation though.

Had I not been on centermounts, one of the sickest days of my career (top 5 def) would have been at keystone. Centermounts + deep goodness (which of course doesn't exist at keystone) = hating life temporarily. Should have been on my B3's.

Phish, it is not the width of my skis that makes me core, it is the scenarios like the one you described that does it... I actually hung at eldora with those kids same day and actually tried to click into my bindings in my tennis shoes. Sad? Yes. Core? Even more so...

Edit: I'm debating posting pictures of my shoulder (on which the skis were resting). The plavix I'm taking for the torn artery made me bruise like hell. Pretty funny.

I must confess I skied on 72mm-waist skis today in fresh AK pow. Laugh if you want, but it was dust on crust, so they were right for the conditions. Actually, the best laugh at my expense was when I made my 2nd run down with my ski crampons still attached!

Be aware that rumors of Keystone's radness are greatly exaggerated.
