Doood, there's countless dozens of places to pull off along 395 and go beddy-bye. I used to do that all the time.

Well, I'm sure you're not going "up" 395 to get to Mammoth, since in this Euro-centric society of ours, our coloquialisms often consider "north" the same as "up."

Therefore, there's loads of BLM land if you're coming down 395 from the greater Reno/Carson City area. Loads and loads of it. There's also plenty of forest service land that doesn't get nearly enough traffic for anyone to bother you. Just take one of the multitudes of side roads between June and the Mammoth Scenic Loop turn off (or even the Scenic Loop turn off if there's not much snow.

weather.com is not accurate for Mammoth Lakes - it's for Mono and Reno.

Here's the forecast (typos not mine):

TEMPERATRES WILL BOTTOM OUT THURSDAY WITH HIGHS IN THE MID TO UPPER 50s EXPECTED FOR MAMMOTH LAKES. NIGHTTIME LOWS IN THE 20S THURSDAY AM. EXPECT HIGH TEMPS TO REBOUND TO THE MID TO UPPER 60s BY SAT/SUNDAY.

A friend of mine booked a large (4 bedroom) condo for the weekend of the mini (Fri and Sat nights) with the intention of filling it with a bunch of ski and snowboard instructors from Bear. Unfortunately a bunch of people have bailed out at the last minute, so we're looking for some extra people to help fill some beds (not mention lower the cost). If anyone's interested, send me a PM, or an email at my gmail address: matthew.gay

I officialy got the green light for quick trip and will be rolling in late Thursday and will be looking for a place to sleep in my truck. I have never been to Mammoth so am looking for a little more detail on the camping spots mentioned. So far I have heard the "flats" the "senic loop" the "rest stop" and the "base lot". Are all of these close to where the action is going to be? If so would someone mind giving some more details for a Mammoth Jong?

noooo - that was last night. Tonight is Hennesseys. Today is the mountain, and I have overly excited maggots running around the condo waaaay too early in the morning, for me. I shouldn't be up yet.

Schuss would rather not see you naked, Uber. He says. And I ditto that.
