An Edge Repair That Seems to Be Working
This may fall under the no shit area for some or many…I don’t know, but this edge repair so far has lasted two full days of ice coast skiing, in every type of scratchy situation including many moguls. About a 1 1/2” length of base edge pulled out on my R:EXs just under boot and pointed towards the tip. I broke a couple drill bits trying to drill thru the flat flange in order to put screws through, gave up and then just glued the damn thing with Gorilla glue which of course did not last one run. Spent some more time later and decided to grab my rotary carving tool and chucked in a miniature saw blade and used this to cut (maybe more like grind) a slot on this flat flange. I was then able to tap in a couple small nails thru this new elongated slot. I did this on each side of the break, and then covered the edge gouge with J- Weld. So some of the J-Weld has come out but the edge is still holding and the nails are still in place. Because this break was at boot center there was sufficient material to nail into…seemed solid going in….and I think the elongated slot allows for the edge to flex or travel while the nails stay stationary.
Maybe two days are not enough to declare victory….but I did get two more fun days on one of my favorite skis.
If it weren't for serendipity, there'd be no dipity at all
