high end pants for thick man

I am looking for some new pants for backcountry and resort riding, as my current pairs are fading. I've always had cheapy pants ($50-$70) but I know I could benefit from a nicer pair. I wear about a 40 waist and I am having trouble finding a high end pant for my size. Patagucci makes the Primo Pant in a 40 but is sold out everrywhere. Mountain Hardware seems to make some big man pants but I don't know their models well and I'd prefer some feedback before dropping $200 on some britches. I already have some nice springtime weight softshell pants, so I'm looking for Gore Tex XCR or equivalent. Any suggestions?

Not much mention of pants in the Great Gear List or other searches.

I have a 38" waist and I picked up a pair of TNF Freethinker Pants early season and they rock. Size XL with elastic velcro tabs on each side and belt loops, no suspenders. They stay on fine with out a belt but I use some suspenders if I'm doing a lot of hiking. They're hard to find and not cheap but bulletproof and mad comfortable.

Pete, when you're in the Vancouver area, check out the Taiga outlet. They make some pretty nice stuff on the cheap.

winky noted, but let me add that I do not have trouble finding ski pants that fit - I have trouble finding a high end ski pant that fits without the baggy steeze. I like my gorilla steeze stylie pants for on area riding some days, but what I need is a pair o' pants for backcountry and mountaineering. My extra insulation slows me down, but doesn't stop me from getting out there - I want equipment up to the task.

i ski in a pair of phenix pants that are absolutely bomber! greatest ski pants ever but too heavy for any mountaineering.

i have a pair of mountain hardwear tenacity pants for climbing that i throw on over a pair of softshell MH alchemy climbing pants when needed. these things are great if your just looking for a pair of thin, durable, lightweight, very waterproof yet breathable pants to wear over soft shells or fleece pants to protect against the elements. highly recommended.

oh, but im a small guy w/ sub 30" waist so fit wise im not any help.

    MH tenacity pant
    Mom! The meatloaf! FUCK!.
