    Baker Update Needed

stuck at work today, thinking of going tomorow. Did it warm up, or is the snow still pretty light? Worthy of a sick day?

It was deep and very light for PNW, faceshots all day long. I was completely buried by sluff with over a foot of snow above my head while still upright, after dropping a cliff and coming to a complete stop in belly-button deep powder. Kind of scary.

Freezing level is supposed to be around sea level with more snow tonight.

I would suggest that you skip work, but only because I can't go tomorrow.

32 inches of fluffy pow in 24 inches, and it skied even deeper. Too deep in some spots. Easily the best day in years next to the sunday during banked slalom weekend. Today was a top 10 ever day. And it's supposed to be bluebird for the next few days.

I was half surprised the Howatts even opened the mountain, with their track record this year. I love when patrollers break out the Prophet 130s, the maintenence guys are getting fully whiteroomed on their sleds with nothing but the top of their 8 foot tall flags showing, and the mountain is pretty much empty. Oh, and 32-something inches of new... that helps.

Yeah, one or two inches of precip, which means 12-24 inches of snow usually. We ended up with a convergence zone and 32. What forecast were you looking at?!

Baker was really good and really deep again today, plus bluebird sky, canyon opened in the afternoon. Overall a sweet day, apart from breaking my binding toe.

On a side note, I am really surprised at how many people are out on the shuksan arm and other places, skiing/boarding down side by side without a care in the world on a day the avy danger is rated HIGH. I know that subject has been discussed before, so maybe surprised isnt the right word, but I can't think of a better one.

Avy danger may have been rated High, but on-snow testing yielded considerably different results. But yes, idiots still come down in groups.

how much are they forecasting for sunday.

the noaa says .25 is that .25 of a foot or 3 inches?
also says the freezing level is supposed to be 3500 feet

is that cement snow or relatively light for baker?

    how are the weekend crowds?

worth the drive from vancouver? i love baker but only been there on weekdays

the .25 is for water equivalent. http://www.nwac.us/products/OSOMTB shows 7" so far with a rising temp.

I've always felt like inbounds weekends at Baker are more about it getting tracked out too fast than having to wait in line forever. Being a BC jong, this bites. But you beep and all so you should be able to get some good inbounds and maybe bc laps in. You should definitely go if the temps don't get above freezing.

Saturday is the most crowded day. Sunday usually isn't bad. Get there early though because the untracked won't last long. It was snowing hard when I left at 3:00 and was snowing most of the way back to Bham.
In drove this drunken madman and stopped on a dime! Unfortunately the dime was in Mr. Rococo's pocket!
