Just so you guys know, I stomped that air. Hard. I was thinking of posting a TR about it. Little gripped above the rock face, but I just kind of took a deep breath, visualized, and pointed them. Thankfully it all worked out.

Woodsy left there and Ice frequents there. Those are reasons enough to stay away.

now that I've spent some time at both, have passes this year at both I can say that it's no better at either place. either place you're skiing crud by noon. You can find good snow if you hike/sidestep at either place after a storm.

the difference is that snowbird has liftlines and way, way longer runs.

whatever. if you sidestep for a half hour at any ski area you'll find good snow. I don't know why people think solitude is so special.
Yes, you can sidestep 20 minutes and ride 3 lifts for 5-10 turns...not much different than the bookend chutes. am I wrong?

there have been liftlines this season, and there has been a real tendancy for sol to be chop really early in the day.

That's because people on this board won't shut the hell up about the place.

A couple seasons ago when I was spending a lot of time there (due to $25 midweek tickets with Eagle Club Card) I remember thinking to myself "This place is great, but it's really small. All it would take is maybe five or six more good skiers on the mountain, and it would be tracked out in half the time."

Apparently that's happened. Moral: if you like someplace, zip your lip.

No shit. That's why I don't ski Solitude anymore. But everyone else should.

    It's also in Big(inner) Cottonwood.

it's just been kind of a letdown to look around most solitude pow days this year and go

"hey, so...it's 11:00 and I'm skiing bumps now..hmm....and they're way way shorter bump runs than LCC...hmmm. so...I didn't go over there why?"

^^^had that thought quite a few times this year, seriously^^^
