This doesn't really offer me that much solace because I have tried...but I really don't like Meadows. However, I thought about heading up this weekend just so that I could be on skis and quickly ruled it out because if I got a call from the cops (I am on-call for the next week for after hours crimes that need warrants ect.) and I didn't get cell reception OR didn't hear the call...my ass would be in HUGE trouble with the head honchos of my office. Therefore, I don't get to ski this weekend.

I think I'm gonna skip class right now and head to Alpy...
Probably head to either Baker or Crystal for tomorrow. Maybe I'll bump into some of you folks.

Meadows is not that great. SKibowl can be incredible, though; and I know my T-Mobile works there perfectly.

    Dug,

Keep an eye out for me at Xtal tomorrow. Brown felt aussie style cowboy hat, sure to be the only one on the mountain. Grey jacket & pants. I'll be demoing some Gotamas though plan to ride the Mojo 90s at some point. The weather's looking good so I'll probably bring my camera too, which means I'll be wearing a large hipbelt & lumbar pack with a large black camera case on my hip.

Stevens was great today. Thanks Squirrel for pointing me in the right direction. (I had six consecutive untracked runs on the backside.) Then called it a day.

The later runs required a bunch of entry and exit effort. But they were worth it.

If my friend's birthday wasn't tomorrow I'd be up at crystal waiting for them to open southback!!!!

    Get it!!!!

Looks like another week of flying mag-solo. Oh well, I hope everyone gets some goods this weekend.

Extree, we could wait in the chair 6 line again...what a day.

dug - go to Rainier Rides. They can hook you up with a proper set of skis for not a lot more than it costs to rent the skeezy bandits. That's where I'm getting the Gotamas from.

They're right by the Snorting Elk, making a good excuse to stop in there for a cold one or three at the end of the day...

Word from the guys at the rental shop is that South Back was sweet today. I'll be at Chair 6 when they open it.

Ack, I got the Rossis already. For cheap from skimart though, $20.

Man, I gotta check out those im77's at Rainier Rides. Been so curious about them.

Chair 6, which one is that?

went to steven today--it was sweet. freshies to be had all day long--plus that rarest of all NW birds, the sun.

i was thinking of heading backcountry tomorrow, but the snowpack sounds so sketchy. it'd have to be low angle stuff.

south back at crystal sounds too tempting to pass up, so i'm headed up there. if any of you want to carpool, hit me with a pm. if not, keep an eye out. i'm always looking for rippers to tear it up with. [red jacket, white pants, black helmet, blue pack]

i guess it is cause your so cute. and I just got your message as well. weird as I had no missed calls.

But yeah - you wont be solo on sunday. I may need to leave a bit early....wont know until tommorow night.

    But call or PM.

There were freshies today. You may have to go a little far afield to find them tomorrow if the snow slacks off tonight, everything was getting pretty cut up, including the West side of Silver Basin (very nice snow) and the easily accessible North Country.

Thigh deep and deeper in some places. Most of what I found was calf to knee deep. Still, plenty of face shots and enough pow to demonstrate that a 105mm waist ski with minimal sidecut is a lot more fun in deep snow than an 89mm waist.

Best in-bounds snow was in Green Valley. Nice & soft and plenty deep in places. Grubstake was getting thoroughly worked over but contained a lot of soft snow. That run under the GV chair, right below Grubstake still had a lot of fairly deep snow on it at the end of the day. Lower Exterminator is $$$. Upper's not bad but has some chunks & crud in places. Stay off Sunnyside unless you like cut-up crust & big chunks.

    My legs are tired.

ditto what Chainsaw_Wille said. except i didn't find anything i'd quite call thigh deep. but then i didn't hit lower exterminator, either south back was sweet. back side of king, into silver basin, was an unexpected money shot. yeah, there was some thin crust about halfway down, but just duck into the trees and it's back to the soft pow.

but for tomorrow, it's looking like baker's getting the goods (again):

I am hoping tonight brings a little snow to Crystal. If not, no worries... let us not forget what it was like last year at this time.

Cut up crud I can handle, I have just the ski for it.

Have a great rest of the weekend, I'm out!

I'm leaving Kyrgyzstan today on my way back home, should be home in, oh...probably 4 or 5 days or so. Have to go through Qatar and Germany first. I was SUPPOSED to be back on the 27th, but that went to hell. Once I'm back...it's on...and now my sleep body clock is based off of 14 time zones ahead, so I shouldn't totally be fucked up when I get home (oh god I hope not)...

so here's hoping it keeps snowing awhile.

    ENJOY!

Silentstorm, deepest snow I found was in North country. Don't know what the run's called, but you go through the very last gate along Northway Ridge, follow the ridge to your right out a ways then drop down. There was some wind-loaded pow in there that I think would qualify as thigh deep. At least on my short legs...

Jumper - next weekend's looking real good right now if things go as predicted throughout the week. A pow day at Xtal would be a great welcome-home, no?
