    AT n00b looking at boots

I am interested in AT boots, because I am starting to get into backcountry skiing. I know they are lighter than downhill boots, and I hear they are a lot more comfortable. The Garmont G-fit alpine touring boot was reccomended to me, and it seems like a nice, inexpensive boot. I was wondering if this boot can perform with regular alpine boots on the ride down (i.e. jumps and hucks). I have had a lot of problems with my current Technicas (shin bang, pressure spots), and was wondering if these would be a more comfortable boot in that aspect.

    thanks for the help

    What's your boot size - I may have a pair of G-ride 27.0s for sale - used about 30times.

First of - they're a lot lighter. They're usually more comfortable but not necessarily since its possible to have a poor fitting AT boot and a good-fitting alpine boot.

Second - theyre not as performance oriented generally as alpine boots but they are a lot nicer to tour in due to weight - comfort (possibly) and the lugged sole for walking and hiking.

Lee, whats the bootsole on those 27's? around 306? If they go up for sale in a month or so I'll call dibs.

catbert, what are your "current tecnicas"
    And what do you weigh.
If you are big, you will notice a lot less control with the G Ride. They are very skiable, but esp for hucking they might be too soft.
I'm 215 6'4" and I ski them fine, but stay more centered, can't pressure the tips as well, and don't really huck on Grides. Well, I don't really huck off grides either.

Depends on your weight and what stiffness you are used to. If you are skiing tecninca race, you will be bummed. If you are coming from a tecninca diablo, you will be only slightly softer.

thanks for the help, I did a search but didn't come up with much. LL, Ive got a size 29, but thanks anyway. Core, current boots=Tecnica Rival X9 Hot forms. I am 130 pounds, about 5'9", agressive skier.

You should be fine on the GRides.
    1) you are light
    2) you are coming from a softer alpine boot.

whether they are more "comfortable" is a bootfit and foot shape issue.
Honestly, your tecnincas should be really comfy. They may not be the right boot for your foot, or you may need them tweaked by a pro bootfitter.

Yeah, I am going to go see what I can do about my boots today. If all else fails, I am going to see what the AT boots are like.
