    Tahoe 2/19-2/20 Pow report.......

On Monday while hoards of others were headed to Kirkwood for a day of skiing. AKA, Mr. Shoelaces and I opted for some Carson Pass BC action. Around 10 am we arrived at the snow park to an empty lot, very odd since the day before there were about 20 cars in the lot. Shoelaces does a quick look over of gear, “jacket, pants, hat, goggles, pack, skis, boots……………..boots………….SON OF A BITCH”. It appears that Shoelaces left his boots in Sac, so he heads off to the wood for a pair of sick “high performance demos” while AKA and I headed off for a lap.
Said boots pictured below……….sick Rossi R.O.C.S.

Shoelaces caught up just as we were about 20 min into the skin back up after our first lap

I was quick enough to get the camera out

Once at the top we decided to continue to Elephants back (obligatory skinning photo)

The turns on elephants back were saaaweeet
AKA getting some, while shoe waits

    SHoe getting his

A short skate/boot we were back on the ridge in Carson and ready for one more lap to the lake
    AKA

    Shoe

Then it was time for the short......seemd like forever...skin on the fire road back to the top, to the car

The next day was supposed to be a day off, since I was beat from working until 3am and waking up at 6-7am to ski for 3 days straight. But at 8 am the phone rings and AKA asked if I want to ski some semi lift serviced BC at The Wood.
LPH, AKA and I head for lookers right of pipeline in hopes for some soft snow, as AKA drops in for his first turns this was not the case. The wind had created a nice crust on the snow for us.

Luckly after 5-6 turns the snow got light again and made for some sick pow turns the rest of the run............that we milked as much as possible
    LPH

White Balance on the camera did some odd things.......

Have any sluff control issues? Skiing down a steep bowling alley thru some trees Monday, I could sense the sluff lapping at my heels. 3/4 of the way down exited stage right to check it out and watched it all pass me taking out the rest of my line, couldn't even see were my tracks had been above me.

    Only on steeper pitches.....

There was virtually zero sluffage on the main face of Elephants Back that we skied. It's quite a bit larger face than what Kush showed in his photos, and the snow stayed put the entire way down for all of us. So that was very encouraging.

The only sluffage I encountered was on my first run in a short steep gully at the top of my first pitch...it was only maybe a 15 foot section, and i made one turn and sluffed it dry. No biggie though as it was very manageable.

Also of note...there were absolutely no signs of natural slide activity that we could see anywhere around us.

Nice... Figured someone around here would post some pics from Monday.. Did K-D Sat and Sun, but bailed Monday.. Driving back from SL took 89-88 back to the bay area and saw all the normal backcountry spots tracked up big time by noon.. Don't think I've seen that much action from the road on a single day since___________________.

I pulled over in the parking lot to console him. I was like, "Shoe, don't worry. I did it three times last year."
