Utards - Bootfitter I Can Get To?

Well I'm sitting here because my ankle hurts too much to ski. I have five more days on this trip and I'm gonna be crippled unless I do something. I've developed a bone spur (I guess) on the inside of my left ankle that looks like my ankle bone, only bigger. It's been getting worse all year and now I have to do something about it. So I'm going to blow off skiing tomorrow and see if I can get this straightened out or at least improved.

The problem is that I'm at Solitude without wheels. I can take the bus down the canyon and then go to the light rail I guess. Anyone have a suggestion on a good bootfitter and directions how to get there by public transportation?

Or what about the place underneath the Porcupine? Does anyone know the name of that place and whteher they do good work? That would be ideal. But all suggestions/recommendations appreciated, thanks in advance.

The place under the Porky is The Lift House (801) 943-1104

Not sure of their bootfitting capabilities.

Ideally, you'd go to Earl at the Sport Loft. He changed my life and saved my feet. But the Sport Loft is down by Cottonwood Mall, and who knows how many buses you'd have to take to get there. Lift House might be able to get you through for now, though.

Thanks Track. I'll give 'em a call, maybe I can get an idea about them over the phone.

edit: thanks BBK, I'll call them too, maybe they can give me directions.

we had liners re-heat fitted at the Lifthouse recently. Competent at the very least for a grind/punch i'd say, just based on my experience meeting a ton of great bootfitters in the past.

I believe they said their best guy to come in and see was Chris? maybe christian.

BIG 2nd on Earl. I'm in my third pair of shells from him and I won't go to anyone else. 801-272-3701

I'll 3rd that recommendation. He's done wonders for my wacky feet.

Wally or Scott Basso at Deep Powder House at alta both have skills, if you can get there. Tell them I sent you J, they'll take good care of you.

I sucked it up and went to Earl at The Sport Loft as well. I've had some initial pain, but a quick trip this morning seems to have taken care of it. The guys at the lift house were pretty knowledgeable, but were squeezing me into a boot that was a size too small based on my foot length alone. Earl's son Jeremy did about 12 measurements and asked a ton of questions before even going back to get boots.

    It's not cheap though.

Remind me. We'll send him a red cap and a Speedo.

Well I'm not gonna buy new boots, it should just be a punch-and-grind deal and maybe I'll go for new footbeds since the cork ones I have are like 10 years old and that might have caused the problem as they've broken down over time, letting my feet pronate so that the inside of my ankle is jammed against the shell.

So I think for now I'll just ride down with Skifishbum and see how it goes, but thanks for the advice peoples.

Ice, I have tomorrow morning off and can shuttle ya' somewhere if need be. It wouldn't be a problem at all.

Earl at the Sport Loft is amazing, he just fixed a problem with Kelly's tele boots (mainly that they didn't fit) but it was $90 to do it. They're great now, though.

Let me know if you need help with a ride tomorrow.

Like father like son. Jeremy is a cool cat and knows his stuff.

Dave Larson is the owner of the Lifthouse and he has been very helpful in the past although I am pretty sure he is not a bootfitter. His son Zac seems to have a pretty good grasp of the equipment - ask for him and I am certain he will take care of you.

BTW, I was in the same predicament one time and I ended up taking the bus down canyon, walking to the Lifthouse and then taking the bus back up. It worked out pretty well. Just check the bus schedule so you minimize your wait times. Also, be careful crossing Wasatch Blvd. - those dudes coming down from LCC will take you out without blinking.

Steve Bagley at Superior Ski (back of Christy's on the Tram Deck at the Bird) is also really awesome. I've seen him several times, and I highly recommend him. Perhaps if your transportation falls through, you can take the bus down BCC, and then up LCC.

somebody PM me Iceman's last name or condo unit or cell number or something so I can get a hold of him before I leave. I'm 100 yards away but w/o info I'm useless.
