Elitism....coming from you O Lord of the Uphill? That's fucking ripe. Did you have to ask Andrew for that answer or did you glean it from one of his books? I bet you'd follow him right off into the sunset if he'd let you. That'd be so romantical! Would the neo-cons force you to drop the party line though with the conflict of interests and all?

At least my argument has validity to lose (and your first two paragraphs repeat the same insult, next time try spacing that out a bit more, mmmmkay?). You're just a bitch to the system. Free your mind and your...no...I doubt that you're capable of free thoughts. Just keep plugging away up that skin track man. Right, left, right, left...sounds vaguely militant...hot damn subliminal facism strikes again! SHOCKER!

Sweet. I'm sure that society will be better at the end of your shift.

That'll be it for this morning. I have a dog to walk in this lovely -6 F (-26 F w/ the windchill) sunshine and then it's off to PT to continue my crusade toward the calf raise.

    Yippieyeahha! A good old gunfight!

The hotel is blameless. Direct your anger at the cops if anyone.

I'm most curious about the legalities of the search. If some woman says she smelled something funny, wouldn't that give them the right to declare "emergency" and search her room and maybe the rooms directly adjacent? But it seems they cannot legally search the ENTIRE hotel. I'd say they her complaint as an opportunity to conduct an illegal raid. You can't just let the cops search every single room in every single budget hotel for the same reason they can't start searching every single house in a given neighborhood. Can they? This seems horribly unconstitutional.

Iceman, Vanilla, truth, this is how you're coming off in this thread:

In other circumstances I could kind of dig Truth's "rational anarchist" ramblings. Having a libertarian slant to my politics, I view the state as a necessary evil with a very specific purpose of protecting citizens from having force used against them directly or indirectly. I believe the war on drugs is a prime example of the state going beyond this mandate, and it is obvious what problems that creates. If this was cops busting some poor dude for growing some pot in his own house, I might be more inclined to rage against the machine. However, if the authorities suspect that some armed fuck up is using highly dangerous chemicals down the hall from me without my knowledge... not so much.

    Just thought I'd pipe in.

I ski snowbasin and pow mow a lot. And I usually stay in ogden when I do.

    But this happened last season:

I stayed at some cheap ass motel in ogden last march for a night and checked out for better digs after being kept awake by a tweaker and his girlfriend fighting in the parking lot and walkways. It sucked. I almost felt bad for the chick and wanted to help her. But didn't want to get involved. So I locked my door and avoided them. i lost sleep and the hotel was flea bag.

Can't remember the name. But there are a bunch of bad motels in ogden. I've decided to not return unless I stay at a more upscale hotel.

That totaly sucks. There is no worse feeling than being rousted by cops in the middle night. That is a serious personal violation. What if there were children in those rooms? The sight of spooks with guns drawn would be quite frightnening..I understand your frustration.

Maybe they went too far on a weak tip. That seems to be the case. I would file a complaint. But comparing all of them to SS Stormtroopers is not fair. If there had really been a meth lab, they might have saved your life. Those cops get paid very little to risk their lives in a world that we only see on television. It is not a pleasent job. BUt I understand your outrage.

While I consider the war on Drugs to be a serious one, I recently had an experience that has changed my opnion. People commit horrible crimes in this country and get away with little punishment. But get caught with a gram of crack and you get a swat team response and a bullshit mandatory 20 yr sentence, thanks to the Rockefellar laws.

You're smarter than this Truth, give it some thought.
My only comment here (and I think Ice is with me) is that our entire criminal justice system is responsible for the relative safety (or lack thereof) of the nation.

Unfortunately, in carrying out their mission certain parts of that criminal justice system are given far greater power than the ordinary citizen. It is the responsibility of all of us to ensure that those folks (be they cops, prosecutors, judges, or lawmakers) are kept in check so that they don´t overstep their bounds. I appreciate the fact that the constitution prohibits search and seizure without probable cause. If the cops or DEA (truly some of the worst of all law enforcement agents) want to cross that line, then I reserve the right to:
    a) Deny them entry w/o a warrant
    b) Bitch about it on the internet after the fact
    c) File a civil rights complaint if they force entry (I am probably less heavily armed than Truth or most folks on this board...)

Truth definitely knows how to protect himself on the mean streets.

    Police Blotter

Chad Spector, you're going to hell

Chad Spector, of 728 W. Jackson, was arrested for assault on May 9 at 10:25 a.m. on the 100 block of South Des Plaines. According to police reports, the victim, a priest, was standing outside the church when Spector drove past. Feeling that Spector was going too fast, the priest yelled at him, telling him to slow down. Spector allegedly stopped his vehicle and hollered at the priest, saying, "Mind your own business. Go find some boys to molest." To which the priest understated, "That's not nice to say." Spector reportedly then told the priest to do something obscene to himself. Spector said this in a manner that had the priest fearing for his safety. When Spector left, the priest copied down Spector's license plate number, which police officers later used to ascertain his home and arrest him. He was taken to the 1st District for processing.

My buddies & I were staying at Extended Stay America in Sandy;they had a room ,& I had a room.At around 1am, I here a bang out in the hallway.I see shadows moving across the bottom of the door.I look through the fisheye & see several cops with a german shepard.I see several firemen go by,followed by DEA spooks,WTF!I look out the window,& there are no less than 4 fire trucks,2 fire marshall SUV's,2 cop cars & 2 K9 trucks, now I'm getting very concerned! I call my buddy's phone several times until he angrily answers,"WTF dude,I'm sleeping!"

I tell him that at least 10 different government officials, some with guns drawn, have gone down the hall towords their room.I'm talking to him when I hear a knock through the phone. My buddy says," They're knocking," and hangs up. I'm not walking out my door with a bevy of heavily armed ,trigger happy, goosestepping, SS henchmen on the loose.I watch through the fisheye & see 2 cops go by with my buddy behind them.A few minutes later (a very long time)he calls & says the cops are looking for a meth lab & are removing everyone from their rooms.

I get dressed as the knock comes to my door.I open the door,& am greeted by 2 firemen with some sort of air sniffing device,2 cops with drawn, cocked pistols & 2 DEA spooks. The fireman asks me if everything is ok while thrusting the device into my face.

I say," You mean other than the fact I'm being accosted by armed men in the middle of the night while I'm sleeping, that kind of all right?"

He asks me about the smell in the hall,& what I've been doing.
I reply,"I'm sleeping , what do you think I'm doing!"

He looks at the device, shakes his head no to the others,& tells me to go downstairs to the lobby.I get dressed & peek out the door as they move down the hall, watching their protocol.Knock, identify, demand access,& have guns drawn with the hammer back. The other people don't want to open their doors & this makes the cops irritated & spooked.Slowly one by one they open their doors & I watch the same process a few times. If meth labs are so dangerous & prone to explode, why would officers even thing of firing a gun in the vicinity of such a potentially combustible situation?

I go downstairs & talk with my friends. After a couple of hours they've searched the hotel with dogs,AND FOUND NO METH LAB.They say Extended stay America is a haven for meth lab maker, but sorry,...we can go back to our rooms. At 4 am or so I finally get back to sleep.I'm really tired in the morning & we bail on skiing to find a new place to stay.I politely explain to the M.O.D that there is nothing she can do to get me to stay there ever again,& that I feel violated having cops with dogs, spooks & firemen go through my room. She explains it's never happened before in her 4 years there,I tell her I find no solice in that tidbit. She asks what I want,I reply," to feel unviolated again."

She tells me, a guest smelt something funny & called the cops (out of paranoid delusions IMO).I tell her I will never stay there again & will bad mouth her company any chance I get for the rest of my life. She comps part of our stay .Here I am staying true to my promise.

NEVER,EVER STAY AT EXTENDED STAY "METH" AMERICA,Unless you fancy being rousted in the night by gun toting Nazis & firemen in full Hazmat gear.

I have a lot of great friends in Utah,& I love skiing here, but there is a different feel to the prevailing culture here ,and I find it oppressive.I'm all for busting Meth lab makers, but this was ridiculous & way beyond paranoid.

I know some will think that this could happen anywhere,& while it could,it didn't,it happen here in Utah.I now have a new definitive answer as to why I live where I live.
Way to stick it to the man! i'm positive Extended Stay will miss your business.

I agree, though, I hope meth use becomes more widespread. Seems to be a very effective way to cull the bottom 10% of society.

another question. Did these SS thugs have jackboots on. you left that out.

    thanks in advance...

Figures it'd be a pussie hiding behind an alias...nice parallel to a pedophile hiding behind the frock no?

When the next batch of shirts come in I'll still be fighting the good fight in the face of facists like you. See, my digital self is just a tamer vesion of the real me...unlike some spouters here. Have the sac to back your position in the flesh, ya see it's not just empty words here. Walking the walk and willing to get arrested in the process if that's what it comes to. That was mother's day 2004, I have no shame in verablly slapping that frock clad pissant in full view of his sheep, but this is not a religous debate.

Don't buy a shirt from me...please. Instead go to church and pray for my sins.

Irony is the priest not showing up for the court date. Who had the guilty conscience? Truth is truth. Always has been, always will be.
