Now 5 days post surgery. Had it done by the docs at Duke University. 7 month rehab program to 85% pretty quick program and intense. 1st day after surgery i could fire my quad, and get about 8-13 degrees of painfull flexation of my knee. Now I can get about 15-20 degrees with about 35% weight bearing. Down to one cruch to get around the house and two during classes. Tips for those going into surgery. Have a nice bed or couch to sleep on that enables your leg to be elevated higher than your heart to control swelling. Definatly elevate, ice and keep wrap in the ace bandages, oh yea pop the pills, its the only time you can legally be doped up on narcotics 24/7. Pics are from day 5 in comparison to the good leg.
Just got back from PT. 45 degrees on the heel slide, 65 degrees on the assisted slide using a chair. And Im able to get the leg completely straight and do leg raises. I also checked the reports for Alta and there getting dumped on while we should see some mixed precip here at Jay Peak. Shitty skiing.
Word of advice. dont huck the first cliff you see after an area has been closed for 3 weeks due to avalanche control. Id hucked much bigger cliffs but a little 20 footer got me. I dont know what happend but the landing felt good except for the two poping sounds and then the pain but who knows hopefully next year Jay will get another record season of snow. 1999 571" of snow fell here in Vermont.
Its been 14 days since my surgery. Im fully of the crutches and took my stitches out last night. I can walk just fine with full control of my quad and gate control. Stairs are fine and the pain/swelling is mostly gone. I still have some swelling mainly around the knee and lower leg. Not bad at all in comparision to the previous picture I posted. I have over 120 degrees on a heel slide flex and damn close to getting my heel off the ground for the hyper extension. If your in the south east and need to get fixed go see Dr. Toth at Duke University. She's fixed my rotator cuff and now my knee. Good luck to all other gimps out there no matter what ales you
