    Utards - Powder Mountain Beta?

It looks like I will be spending tomorrow skiing Powder Mountain for the first time (Its an issue of skiing with a hot girl). So any info on primo runs, the $7 cat rides, cheap tickets, etc.. would be much appreciated.

I hit Powder for the first and only time in early Feb, so someone correct me if I spread mis info. First off, the lifts were painfully slow... The place has several different parking lots on several different parts of the mountain--seemed like the best skiing was via the Paradise chair, and we were parked at the opposite end of the mountain. Hit the cat three times--was well worth it as there was a lot of fresh (three days after a storm) if you followed the traverse out (toward James Peak?)... Coming down, you want to stay on the high side, skiers right, to extend the run...

Cool, thanks, I am hoping that the pow skiing will be stellar with what is happening now. So, how about cheap tix? Any place to stop and buy discounted tix on the way up the hill?

    wear your peeps
some lines it would be nice to just have your own shovel/probe
if you ride the cat, use your poles either like a T-bar/poma or waterski style
    park at the top
Huntsville + Star Bar + Star Burger = Fat Fuckin City!
    enjoy, great place.

I was wondering about that for the cat skiing portion. I'm not how well the chica I am going with skis, but regardless I will be hitting the cat operation at least once. But i will bring her a beacon also in case she is qualified.

strap it on her regardless IMVHO. It is one of those places that they do control but the terrain is generally such that you'll feel way happier.

Will do, sounds like good planning. Plus it increases my gnar points with her .

FWIW, my jong-ass thought was "why would I pay for the cat track when there's nobody on the lift-served?"

What are you talking about? That place is super crowded and don't go there. The lifts are way too slow and the snow gets skied out quick

The sam hell are you talking about? Is that 11 degree slope going to rip loose? Take us all out at 2 miles an hour? Egads.

Powder is fun for mellow sloped Powder runs, but it is lacking in the pitch department. I used to love the place, but I worked there for a season and got incredibly bored with the mountain. On really deep days it's almost too flat to be nay good at all. Make sure to hit the shuttle rides to the bus off the backside for some decent pitch. If you're hitting anything else make sure it's the paradise chair.

I've been having trouble lately here with my sarcasm/territorialism meters. If however they are functioning basically within spec and you are not being either: me thinks that you're up for quite a surprise about what's "open" from the cat when you next return.

That and even the sally alley that is open from the cat is plenty steep enough to slide. Between the cat and bus country, I personally wouldn't go there w/o a peeper.

Gotcha. You're talking the cat specifically and not the mountain as a whole. No question James Peak has some goods and more lifts are rumored.

I have a couple of cat ride tickets I'd be willing to let go of for the cost of one ticket.

    Let me know.

md9: yep, Telee was gonna base his decision on if she was qualified to use it, it sounded like. I figured "in bounds" she was more likely to be qual'd to ski stuff regardless of her beacon savvy and might as well wear one.
