I'm 34 Benny, and I'm not off hunting down terrorists because I choose not to. I am a Navy BRAT(Born Raised And Trapped). After a couple of years in College I decided to join the Navy. I had aspirations for the special forces. I went through all the testing and was a signature away. As I sat there with the pen in hand, I thought about all those nights my mother would not go to bed so she could help my dad get ready to deploy. He flew P3s, they were submarine hunters. My dad would get the word an hour or two before he would have to deply and then he would disappear for a two or three weeks at a time. Most of that time was spent up in the Bearing Straight, flying search patterns looking for Soviet Subs. I remembered the sadness I would see in my mothers eyes as my dad was about to leave; my mom never knew how long he was going to be gone and there was always the possibility he wasn't going to return. So as I sat there with that pen in my hand I remembered my mother and I knew that if I signed that contract, I would be career military and I didn't want to give that kind of a life to my future wife. So I sat the pen down, and told the recruiter I needed a day or two to think about. I walked out of his office and never returned.

I'm still not married, but I started a small business and have worked 8-10 hours a day, 6-7 days a week for the last 13 years.

I choose the selfish path. I choose to spend my time living a dream rather than living to serve my country. Sometimes I wonder about that decision, I wonder what my life would be like if I had waited another 20 seconds to become introspective, and signed that contract. But I never regret it, because I like who I am today and I am who I am because of the choices I have made along the way. So I can't regret it.

My life today is possible because others have made a nonselfish decision and choose to serve their country. They have fought, and continue to fight, for the freedom to make that chioce. We can choose to serve higher ideals or we can choose to serve your own ideals. Whatever choice we make, there are others who are out there fighting for our right to make that chioce, and the right to have an opinion independant of that choice. Even you Benny. There are people who have died so you can piss all over them every opportunity you get. Isn't this a great country?

Fuck yeah, if you can retire in your 30's while the white trash go off a fight for ya. Yup, God Bless America.

my favorite irony from the original uproar over the original pics was that commentators and officials were saying things to the effect of "this is unamerican". Treating prisoners poorly is unamerican...

whatever. I'm sure that lie worked on people who don't know anyone who's actually been to prison. Hint: sure enough, prisoners are treated in horrible, horrible inhumane ways right here in the USA but nobody pays attention to it.

So, you're right, the brass isn't going to take a fall for anything because, in this case, the brass had nothing to do with what was going on.

I'm glad you pointed that out. I think it's important to remember that the military leaders put a stop to these things as soon as they found out about them. It kind of draws attention to the fact that this was the act of a few sick people, and not a common practice of the military at large.
Very true Meat. Good post. Your post also explains to me why Likwld and Benny limit themselves to one liners/

And yeti, you are right, but this is not actually about POW's or prisons. It is about an obseseive hatred for one man. These guys do not actually give a crap about anything else, that is why they could not beat Bush when he probably derserved to lose the last election.

Oh, and thanks again for that Benny, what should have been one term, is now not only 2, but an eternity to you and I when you consider the supreme court nominations being made by BUsh. I hope Carl Rove sent you a fruit basket for xmas, because you continue to make him shine each and everyday.

Hey, Cono, are you another rich white guy cheerleading the white trash to save your way of life?

And don't evoke Karl too much. He's not in the clear, you know.

So you have nothing to say as far as this debate goes, but you intorduce race and money. I am glad you point out somebody has to fight for our way of life though.

Whatever it is I have, came from hard work, and if my parents had stayed where it was I was born, I probably would not have had much opportunity.

It is sad that an immigrant can come to this country and make the most of it, while people like you stand on the side whinning about the opportunities and freedom you where born with.

Meat how do Ignore this dude?

Go to "User CP" in upper left of blue banner, and click on "Buddy / Ignore lists".

But, hey, before you go, do you jerk off to images of Ann Coulter? I'm guessing your type imagines her in leather with whips and shit, right?

Can we get some efficient and clean energy sometime soon?
Is there a rocket scientist somewhere working on solar, corn cobs, cow farts? Something? Anything other than oil, natural gas and nuclear?

Once our 'interest' in their natural resources is over, things might calm down on both sides.

And torture is awful, those pics are terrible, and the US should be (and be seen as) taking the high road at all times.
I'm just a simple girl trying to make my way in the universe...
I come up hard, baby but now I'm cool I didn't make it, sugar playin' by the rules
If you know your history, then you would know where you coming from, then you wouldn't have to ask me, who the heck do I think I am.

Nice! Thanks Benny. But before I go I reccomend you stop watching all that Fox news, it is not good for you. Try reading a book or two.

Tar Sands in Canada, there is three times the oil up in Allberta as there is in Saudi. The chinese are currently buying it all though.

I sure hope so. I see fossil fuel as a slongshot; kind of a "single use item". It's a easily accessable, high powered fuel source that catapults us forward then we learn to fly on our own without being dependant on it. Of course I'm taking a long term view on this subject.

I don't have a problem with nuclear. I think it is a viable second option to keep our lights on until we get a handle on fusion or something similar. The spent fuel rods are a problem for us, but it's reasonable to think they won't be a problem for our decendants 5 or 6 generations down the line. So I don't mind passing them on for our great, great, great, great grandchildren to deal with. The world that they inherit will have been built with nuclear power and the physically tiny amount of waste that nuclear power produces seems a small burden to bear compared to the benefits.

Once our 'interest' in their natural resources is over, things might calm down on both sides.

LOL, they have been killing each other since the dawn of time. Maybe after we stop pumping money into them they won't be able to afford the weapons that can reach us and they can go back to killing each other again and leave us alone.

And torture is awful, those pics are terrible, and the US should be (and be seen as) taking the high road at all times.
    I agree.

These people have been fighting for 1000s of years. They aren’t going to quit cuz the “USA” is in the house. I say we get the fuck out before more citizens of the United States go crazy from being shot at everyday.
“it’s easy……you just don’t lead em’ as much”
