    AT Boots

All right, I have narrowed it down to the Scarpa Tornado or the Denali TT. Tried on the Adrenalines and they don't my foot at all, even if they did, hated the way the flexed\didn't flex in the store. Liked the fit of the Tornado's, progressive flex and it just felt better on the foot. Like the fit of the Denali's as well. BD has TTs for $389 with free shipping. The Tornados are a little more.

Question: Anyone give me any feedback on how the Denalis would be for this setup. R:Ex 184 with 04/05 freerides. I know about the ramp angle issues on the FR and will probably take out the front rubber\plastic spacer and go with shorter screws. I was liking the adaptability of the Tornados to go to alpine or AT, but I have good alpine boots so I am thinking that maybe that isn't such a important feature. I have thought about the Dynafit rout but realisticly would probably migrate towards the Pure, from a dollar standpoint.

I haven't used the Tornados but if you already have good alpine boots, half the point of the Tornados (cross over) is already moot. Unless you need the burliest boots out there for AT and don't care as much about walking/climbing etc., you should go with the Denalis.

I don't necessarily "need" a burly boot, but I do ski aggressively and without gear go about 205 lbs. thanks, I am leaning towards the Denalis, but at $400 don't want to get skiers remorse.

Denali's have a better sole for hiking. The Tornado is essentially an alpine boot with a walk mode and you already have an alpine boot plus it has a plastic DIN sole which, imho, is stupid for an AT boot where you will want a Vibram or Skywalker sole to bust it over rocks and scree fields.

I use a Denali XT and a 179 Crossbow (same dimensions as R:EX) with Freerides and love the setup. The Denali is a pretty burly boot man, I wouldn't worry about stiffness. I think you'll like that setup.

I would reccomend getting and adding a boosterstrap as scarpas velcro powerstrap is about usless.

Good move going with the Denali TT's. Up until I bought my Verdicts this year, I skied on 184 REX's with Freerides. I think the boot is a good fit for the stiff and snappy ski. In fact I still take them out on firm days. Before you get your liners baked, you should try and decide if you prefer a snugger boot fit to accommodate better downhill performance, or a more spacious fit to accommodate skinning and warmth. I spend quite a bit of time touring so I have a more spacious fit and sometimes feel compromised on downhill performance. This can be adjusted to a certain extent with thinner or thicker socks and the forward lean adjustment. I just had the stitching of one of my Scarpa liners come undone after 9 months and approx. 60 ski days. The local shop was very cool and gave me brand new liners in exchange for the old piece of shit. One year warranty on the liners is cool, and may be put to use! Especially if you're big and aggressive.

    Thumbs up

Right on guys! Thanks for tweaking advice SFB and SC. It was easy on the sizing, as the next size down would have sent me back 10 years to the Black Toe Nail age, so it was an easy decision. And I get a bonus, the shell is a 1mm shorter than my alpine boots so now I will only be 6mm behind center(seeing how they ski before redrilling).
