    Igneous questions?

im a 6', 160lb ripper. i love going fast in trees, technical in chutes, but still love laying em down on groomers. if anyone who has ridden Igneous skis knows one that would be good for me, i would love the advice as i am young and still impreshionable. i would even like reviews of ones that are not suited for me (friends)! thanks for all your help

well you've definitely come to the right place - Igneous has a cult following around here, for a reason!!! I've had a couple sets, but there are a few others around here who've had wayyyy more than me. Iggyskier, Natty D, Basom, SuPu, Marshal, Z...chime in!

If you're interested...I have a (very lightly) used pair of Iggy Fat GS skis for sale over in Gear Swap. They're actually in primo condition, just ask Iggyskier, he's seen 'em. Might be a good set to try out!!!

I don't think that some 195 FaGS are gonna be the best for a relatively light young skier in the tight + treed steeps at B-Bowl. JMO though. Some 180-190 FFLs though... or 185 FaGS. Not that jumper's wouldn't be good just not the one I would pick heading out the door.

in the order of best skis for you (IMVHO):

    185 FFGS
    190 FFL
    185 FC

i'd go about 235ish flex, as you are skinny

I've owned many pair. they are basically the best skis out there (though the jury is out on a pair of dp's...) Z has my original FGS that i bought back in '97 and put 300 days on - they are still good to go in terms on condition, have plenty of camber, and basically flat out rip.

unless you want full height twins (then check out DPSKIS.COM or CAPITALSKIS.COM) get some iggy's. they slay, and they make you a better skier.

    bummer about your pelvis

unless you are an extremely aggressive skier or just love incredibly stiff skis stick to something under 250 on their scale. owing to massive build quality and construction type you don't need them to be really that stiff. Talk to Adam though, he'll set you right. I'm guessing though 230-240

Ya think? I have 185 FFGS 140RA. I love em when I'm hauling ass on a powder day, but they aren't the ideal trees/groomers/resort ski. Workforturns has a bit of height/weight on me, so maybe they would be fine, but for an everyday ski I would think a FFL or FaGS would better suit him.

Like others have said, call Adam, he'll help you out.

enough sidecut for groomers, long enough to be stable @ his speed, fat enough for pow turns in trees/hucking/stability in couloirs, softer (230ish) for your weight.

I ordered a new pair of FFF about a week ago. They should hopefully be here the 1st or 2nd week of March.

FFGS for sure if you are looking for a do it all ski. The sidecut will let em rail on groomed. very stiff laterally too. I've got 190FAT as a quiv ski. Nice and soft 220RA because I'm a lightweight (6,155). I found them to be the most stable ski I have ever been on in cut up snow. Lack of sidecut IS a nice thing on a soft snow ski, being able to break the ski out from under you and smear a turn is a sick feature to have. IMHO, because of the soft flex I can still ski these pretty well on groomers when I have to. Just keep a nice edge on them and your set. Another thing, the bases on these are TOUGH. I let my pops ski them at alta a couple weeks ago. On the plane he admitted that while coming down through thirds he made a full on turn on rock. Great, I thought. Look at the skis when we get home....light scratch or two, thats it. Put it this way, I could proform pretty much any ski I want working in a shop, but next year I'll be riding a set of 230RA flex FFGS in a 185 with a red gum topsheet and loving every penny I spent on them if all goes well.
    cheers
    Hunter

Get your own topsheet, red gum is mine!

I'm 6'2" about 210 and I just went to a 240 FFF because the 260 was too much for my taste in that wide of a ski. Now in the FFL, 260 was good for me. 240 in the FFF feels just about perfect and I generally like stiff skis. Getting them mounted up tomorrow, ninja 916 style!

I ended up with those 260 FFF. Amazing skis. Problem I was having was they were too stiff for heavy PNW snow. Even so...they are amazing. They will be Vicious' in about a week. They will be better suited to the snow of CO, when it is actually there
    Enjoy Luke

I placed an order for a 190 FFF 240 RA as well. should be here early-mid march. Very excited. Natty - i'll probably PM you in a bit to see how the 240 and 260 compare. They are gonna look mighty fine with some ninja s916.....

and my Capital El Jefe sould be here soon too.

Well having been a passholder at B-Ridger for 4 years, respectfully I'm not sure I agree...fuck I skied 204 morrisons (and some 190 FFLs) there for a long time and had a blast.

Then again, my favorite stuff was b-gully, nw passage, or the apron...but every once in awhile I'd mix it up with some tighter stuff, like Madman's, Super coolie, Hidden or Cuckoos, and I did just fine in there. Cuckoo's isn't exactly a wide boulvard.

I will agree that 185 FFGS would be pretty sweet for what he described for sure. But without being a salesman of my particular skis...just looking at used in general...he saves 800 bucks, instead of figuring out what he likes and what Igneous are all about and how they ride. That's almost another pair of Iggies! 1000 bucks is a lot to pay for a set of skis, from reputation alone. I'd point out that all of us ranting and raving fanboys here have ridden them before, and also have owned several pair.

Now if you're going to throw money at it, I'd go FFGS for bridger and what you said (groomers) over FFLs. Also go a little softer than you might want for flex, I went 250 on my FFLs which don't have much shape. They were fine at first, but once I nicked my edges away on the rocks of the area (and Big Sky's), you really noticed how hard you had to work to keep them turning on the icier stuff. I think they would have been better for me in a 240 or even a 235. 250 was fine up on the ridge, but anything below High-T or Bronco...

Just a note with the FFGS....

I am looking into getting a pair for touring. The plan was to get them in a 230 flex, but after talking to Adam he said that due to the shape and width of the ski they tend to ski beefier than the flex would suggest.

Adam said for touring he would suggest as low as 220. e said 230 would be the max he would go. So....it is different on alpine bindings and skiiing in bounds, but I guess just take into consideration that the ski's shape can be pretty punishing in a stiffer flex.

Call or Email Adam and I'm sure he'll give more details.

thanks for all the advice. i really appreciate it. jumper bones, i love skiing flippers, high t (exit chute, phone booth), a route, and sotuh boundry trees. so you still suggest FFG's, id probably get them in a 175 simply because i love skiing shorter as a former racer and a lot less ski for the trees but i give that up with speed. is this what you would suggest? and also you say its a lot to get into iggies for a grand but what other way should i get into them? used, i have been looking and i have had 2 bad experinces with used skis being predrilled and getting ripped out easy. what other way is there around it? if any ideas im listening for sure to save some pretty pennies, especially not working in the construction buiseness some im broke.

    6' and a 175?

go longer. Get a softer 185 FFGS.

or if you still would rather have a short ski maybe consider the 180 FFL.

but 175 is tiny, unless you only skied back east or something.

if worried, get it a little softer rather than shorter.

and do not worry about prior drillings either, as long as they are well mounted (eg: away from other holes) I've seen a pair still going strong with 6 separate mounts. Two priors is nothing on an iggy.

6'0" = sure you are... maybe in your mom's heels!!!!

Lars- welcome to the Holy Grail of time wasting! As for breaking your pelvis -it didn't look that bad... What, only 5 lbs of metal and chicken wire to put you back together again? You really need to work the sympathy angle a little better next time- you might have been able to sneak some IGGY's out of it.

Dallas- you should really leave the kid alone. Did he use it in context of talking himself up? Didn't think so. And he can rip- and do it humbly as well.

    Welcome Lars!!!!!
