First trip to UT and I'm sad

Going to SLC with a cheap group/package deal, and this weekend is just not looking to be what I had in mind. No new snow in how many days? I had such high hopes for shredding the featherweight Utah cold smoke, but no snow is forecast until next week. Perfect.

I hate bluebird weather. I prefer storm days with short lift lines, wearing yellow lenses, and having my tracks filled in within minutes. Just whining...sorry.

Any suggestions on where to find some salvageable stashes inbounds at the LCC or BCC resorts?

Colorado is the new Utah. And I'm serious - I haven't seen over-the-head blower in two months. Not to say its been bad. Cause it hasn't. But...

In any case, you'll need to hike in-bounds for any "stashes" that probably don't exist.

I was in SLC in mid December (15 - 19th I believe)...weather was supposed to be high and dry for the entire weekend, and into the next week. Skied Alta in the bright blue sunshine and had a blast - the next morning I woke up to grey skies in SLC. The grey had turned to flurries by the time we reached BCC, the flurries had turned to big fat flakes half way to Soli, and the big fat flakes ended up turning into 1.5 - 2 feet of blower by the time we got off the Summit Lift. You will have fun regardless.
I went out there in search of experience. To taste, and to touch, and to feel as much as a man can, before he repents.

Thanks Canuk, that's the kind of inspiring message I was fishing for. I'm stoked either way. I'm an aspiring wannabe BC skier, but neither myself or any of the group I'm going with is competent enought to march into unknown territory so we're keeping it on-piste.

What are you looking at?? I don't see much energy moving into the area mid-week. I hope you are right. Will be in WY hoping for some blower...

Just in time for my arrival as well. I am flying into SLC on Wednesday and will be staying at the P-Dawg until Sunday. I am hoping that I timed this trip well since the past three trips to Alta I have been stuck in high pressure hell. RB any forecasts for the later part of next week would greatly be appreciated. I realize that that is still pretty far out at this point but just wanted to see if you have any data. I am getting pretty excited about my trip.

Thanks in advance for your help. You are a valuable resource for this board.

Also, I would like to meet up with as many maggots as possible. I will be asking for change in the Collins line up and I will keep an eye out for some Bros. Speaking of which, does anyone know how I could get my hands on some Bro demos while I am at Alta?

We're fortunate enough to have our own model "in-house" that can initialize on either the GFS, ETA or WRF and that takes into account local varaibles such as terrain, etc. It's pretty cool. Looks like a good storm for northern Idaho and Western Montana Tuesday into Wednesday with some moisture making it to Utah as well, as long as the high breaks down a bit this weekend, which it should. Jackson should do a little better than SLC. GFSx also shows a good storm for S. Utah & SW Colorado next weekend, but I'll believe that when I see it - though that is a more La Nina like scenario.

PS: Did I mention I hate the GFS? At least for Northern Utah.

We hit Alta on sat and the 'Bird on sunday. It was a bit stale, but the best snow to be found inbounds was in Devil's Castle below the Apron. It was a long traverse over from Sugarloaf, but after skiing crust all day it was a nice find of 5" or so, with a lot of untracked at the bottom of the apron. We pretty much did laps on that all afternoon.

Utah is so sweet! Wish I could have stayed all this week.
