    Paging Squaretail (07 Gotama Questions)

Before moving on, I have to first say......DONT FUCK WITH THIS SKI, IT'S CURRENT ITTERATION IS THE SHIT.

Knowing that it's already done, I have some questions:

I've heard that the new boards are stiffer than any previous version of the Got, true? If so, how much.

I've also heard that it's going to be available in a 197, but the folks at Al's ski barn told me that 190 is the longest length available next year ?!? Please tell me that was a dirty lie and they were just confused. Also, if there is indeed a 197 variety, what's the spec'd radius going to be. I'm thinking a 197 might make up for the 'enhanced' sidecut.

From reading and seeing pics, the super-square-twin seems to have been abolished. With the new twin how much more running length is added to, say a 190? If there is a 197, what's the effective length of the on-snow edges.

Finally, I've read that the sanouk is going to be back, but notice a distinct lack of pictures from the trade shows. Whats the story on that?

Anything else we need to know?

    Thanks in advance.

I agree with the sentiment that the current version is the shit. I want 10 pairs. No need to change it! More sidecut? No!!!!

Too late, the ski is totally changed for 06-07. But while we are at it, can you say where this ski is manufactured....rumors of an Asian connection.

    DONT WORRY

Don't worry I skied the new Got and believe it is a much better ski. Stiffer, but not that stiff, and it does not ski like it has that much more sidecut. It still is a big turner. The lower tail maybe adds a couple cm to the running length.

But I love the huge tail, lack of shape, and medium flex. Why volkl why

Oh well. I guess they could have improved things.

The Sanouk is unchanged for next year.

Just curious...what do you love about the huge tail?

It prevents you from using the skis as an anchor (if ever necessary), and i find it can catch in certain slabby snow conditions, causing the skis to hook.

That said, I've been on my 190 Gots about 45 days this year (so far)...and I love them. I'd love them more w/o the twin.

    Sizing update per Volkl's manual: 168; 176; 183; 190; 197

I just love the ski. Any change worries me since this is by far my favorite ski after years of searching. Same ski with less tail would be OK, but I don't like the more sidecut trend these days.

Try searching for "gotama", JONG. This has been discussed ad nauseum. 197's will exist, they are made in China, and I've skied them and they suck compared to the previous years.

Gonna have to go ahead and second the statement that the new shape sucks ass (skied the 183 and 190). Might be OK in the 197 tho; didn't get to ski em.

Good thing UPS is bringing my 190s (this year's) on Monday.

Maybe I'll save 'em and sell them to the highest bidder next December or so.

My apologies for the slow reply. Been part of the trade show circus for the last several weeks...been though great pow @ Snowbasin, fog @ Stratton, and bluebird days @ Copper, all fueled by a little ketel one...

I would say about 10% at the most. You can feel it, but it's not an overwelming change.

    Confirmed.

Don't know the radius of the 197 off the top of my head. Will ask the product manager next time I see him and report back. Yes, there are new, lower, rounder profiles for the tip and tail.

Sanouk returns unchanged for 0607. Can't explain why there's been a lack of photos.

General comment. First, thanks for all the praise of the current version, but please don't dismiss the new ski based purely upon what you think it's going to ski like because we added a mm or 2 to the tip. Ski it and decide for yourself.

The AC4, Mantra and Gotama are all made in Germany.

197 gotamas scare me, but not enough to want to try a pair

The only weird thing I see about the new gotamas is that they are white with blackish graphics... which almost seems like snow camo. Well, I guess it makes you buy more of them. On far right.

Call me a jong, gaper or whatever. But I've warmed up to the graphics. Put a few stickers on em, and you'll find em.

    I love snowscapes myself.

The mantras are cool lookin' too. And I've got some minor topsheet delam beginning on my o5-06 mantras too.
