South facing stuff is real nice right now, but the sun will change that in a hurry.
Haven't heard of many skiing Central this year.

Saw some evidence of huge (recent) slides in Grant a few days ago....BIG stuff (150cm crown).

That big wind event made things very slabby on alot of N-facing stuff. Yikes!

Yeah, I assumed that stuff up high back there would be slabbing up pretty good. I skied Freefall Wall on Saturday afternoon and it was heavy, but not slabby, a little too low and treed to be affected that much by the wind.

Where did you see the crowns? Do you think it slid naturally on Friday?

I heard Theo over the radio describe a 15 foot crown in I think Endless and a 4 footer in AF 1. Thought the AF 1 went during the first day of the big wind, memory is fading, but I'm thinking that was Friday or Saturday. He thought the Endless one went a little while ago. The endless one was definitely natural in his view.

Granite was pretty good, but not great yesterday. Top is sorta dense wind effected pow. It got pretty soft halfway down though.

Saw 2 tracks out of central yesterday. Skied it in '97, but didn't even think about it this time after all that wind.

    TR to follow tonight

Yeah, this was in Endless. Weird piece of avy debris was perched on a rock 1/2-way down... Didn't make sense. Then we saw that huge (HUGE) crown way up high. Must have gone sometime recently or the piece of debris would not have still been there. If anyone was in it, they would NOT have survived. Scary.

Endless & Milelong were very slabby.

Oh yea! I'll be out there next week. The high pressure ridge is building. I expect it to break down sometime during the evening on Friday the 17th. Expect an epic powder weekend the 18th & 19th.

The 15' crown Theo reported (sunday?) was really just from where a huge cornice had broken off.

It seems like Central is getting skied a lot this year. It's not as filled in as you might think. The cliff at the bottom still looks pretty f'in big to me.

North winds are doing strange this around here. Granite was as wind effected as I've ever seen it this morning. It was still good though.

I'm kinda enjoying this high pressure stuff. Not wearing alpine boots everyday is a nice change.

Spoke to someone who skied Central yesterday too- heard the same thing. Might have talked to the same person? Skied Corbets today- drop is getting smaller, but it's pretty solid for the landing and first 10 yards or so... then it's sweet.

I've got Thurs, Fri, Sat off from work and am getting kinda bored of Glory and the S. side of the pass. If anyone wants to tour elsewhere (Rendezvous, Jensen Canyon, The Park) let me know.

Did you see it personally, Sherpa?

There was debris in the middle of the couloir. He reported it on Saturday afternoon; I was there at the time.

...kind of hard to have a bad time at J-Hole. I just got back from a 2 day stint and am stoked. You probably won't be lining up a huck into corbetts but man that place has some inspiring scenery. All the hike-to and of course ob stuff will be $$$$$$.

I didn't see it, but talked to a couple patrollers who checked it out the next day. The cornice might have triggered a smaller slide. I don't know, like I said I didn't see it. I'll crawl back in my hole now...

PM me if you are planning to be at the Ghee this weekend for a tour. I can't promise freshies though, seeing as how we haven't had any new snow since Sunday and it doesn't look like we will be getting any new for awhile. I do know of some "huts" on the mountain and if you want to do a bit of a hike through the gates...? Anyway, it would be fun to make some turns with some maggots so let me know.

My buddy skied Central yesterday for the first time - said she was a little nervous but that the snow was great and the air out was only about 15 feet.
Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn.

15 feet? For real? Don't know that I've ever seen it that low...I've only rapped out of it!

In '97 it was a mere 3-6 feet... Now that was a good year.

For you folks that know the Central Chute skiers, I have some crappy pics taken from far away.
Were they in a party of three, late in the day on Monday the 6th??

I was puckered just watching them. The crux was gnarly.
You could tell by how long it took each of them to get through there.
The air out looked easy. Pretty filled in this year.

    Was fun to watch.
