    Question K-Weeders...

I'm heading up the 15th of Jan for the long MlK wknd..any ideas on hotels near the hill would be greatly appreciated...

Also, is it worth hitting another mountain locally...or are 3-days at K-Wood that much better....thanks!

KWeed lodging is overpriced and lame, with 3 night minimums for holiday w/ends.

So you're looking at a minimum of $500 (2 people).

You're better off staying in South Shore. It does get filled up so book early. The Motel 6 on 50 is cheap. I think it's $65/night on normal weekends and +20 on holiday weekends.

The cheapest hostel is "Doug's Mellow Mountain Retreat" at $15/night. It's good for the dirtbag skier. You get what you pay for and don;t say you weren't warned

To answer your Q. My biased opinion is to ski K-Weed the entire 3 days. But if you're up for some alternatives:

    - Homowood (Powder Little Areas that rock). Underrated Family place with lots of good terrain but not as crowded, and less powder pigs. You be skiing pow all day
-Alpine Ghettos. Similar to K-Weed. May get crowded
    - Squallywood. Will be packed as fuck on a holiday
    - Gapenly. Will also be packed as fuck. Check it if there's a snowstorm. bad weather = less crowds. NV side has the steeps.
-Sierra at Tahoe. IF and only IF there's a huge storm (100mph winds, 5+ feet of snow AND all roads to KW are shut AND all lifts at KW are shut.

Heads up- 89 (West side of lake) is closed. To get to Nth Lake from Sth Lake you need to go around the Eastern side. Probably 1-1.5 hours at least.

South Shore, for sure. I find it worth it to spend the spend the extra money and get a brand name hotel. The local dives can be real sleazy as their cliental is sub-human meth fiends from the valley who are only looking for a place to crank up, grind their teeth and to yank the starter on the old Johnson, in between casino sessions.

Best Western, $90 pool, hot tub, clean room, and fire place for getting romantic with the ladies.

Even more betta - There's a B&B on 88 in Woodfords. Linda runs it. It's never crowded and waaaay cooool. Hardrider has the digits, so PM him for them. Totally kicked back, hot tub, hot springs nearby, never crowded, and far faster and shorter to the wood. Unless you long for the casinos and the SLT crowds....

Kirkwood is enough for 3 days for sure. Don't count Squaw out either. It is crowded getting there, and getting on the mountain (tickets, parking lot), but once you are up there lift lines are not really a problem. It's an unbelievable mountain -- worth checkin out at some point. But if not Kweed for 3 days is a fine choice.
