    6:20 AM.

Carson Spur is closed for Avy control and reports are still for 100mph winds over the ridgtops so KW is definitely out IMO today. It should be epic Fri. & Sat.

Just saw a forecast for 20 inches above 7,000 ft. today.

It's a windy as hell down here at my house. REALLY freaking windy.

Heading out to Sierra. Maybe 10 @ west bowl chair

As much as I like to ski storms, this one looks particularly ugly for driving in the mountains, given all the New Years revelers trying to get out. It's a sit home and watch movies day for me.

edit: Just talked to a guy who made it over Donner Summit this am. Said CHP held traffic at the top for escorts to Truckee, visibility to the front of his hood at best, a foot of snow on the road, and no plows to be seen anywhere. Also said the number of Calihoochie road gapers putting chains on the back axle of their front wheel drive cars was astounding.

Due to cost, the ferocity of the storm (wind), and a Newcastle induced hangover, I'm sitting it out today. I'm a definate for tomorrow. Should be great.

This storm is a really windy one. Someone mail me if their out tomorrow.

PFFFFTTT!!!! Watch movies!? BAH! Roads closed?! BAH! Too windy?! BAH!!!

Face shots were had today at Sierra by moi, Mrs. Shoe, lph, watersnowdirt, kellie, nater, arty, & DG. Despite the lateness of the storm hitting last night, it was was deeper than I expected, and BOOM right on the first run....billowing up over the shoulders

the fun only last until Noon though when they shut all the lifts down and kicked us out 'cause of the winds

Just poked at the KW site which updated the 10-16 inch total at 8am in afternoon after front passed to 24 inches. Storm petering out to showers now with 4-8" of colder fluff forecast overnight. Base now 11 to 15 feet. No worry about driving off the road anymore. Temps on remote gauges were showing 24/25 degrees all last night and today so should ought to be middling quality although big winds could have warped out the exposed areas like Monday's storm. I want sum. Setting alarm for leaving early in morn. -dave

Oh, that's ok. Considering the Weed was closed all day today and the forcast for S. Lake is for an additional 4-5 inches (meaning god knows how much up at Kirkwood) tonight, it will be really nice to have one less person skiing all that sweet...sweet pow.

OUR MAIN FOCUS WILL TURN TOWARDS EARLY NEXT WEEK AS MODELS CONTINUE
THE TREND OF FORECASTING A SIGNIFICANT WARM AND POSSIBLY PROLONG
PRECIPITATION EVENT. THIS IS STILL SEVERAL DAYS AWAY AND THE MODELS
MAY CHANGE. WILL NEED TO BE MONITOR THIS POSSIBLE DEVELOPING
SITUATION VERY CLOSELY THROUGH THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

POTENTIAL FOR NEARLY CONTINUOUS MULTI-DAY PRECIPITATION EVENT IN THE
SIERRA HAS INCREASED AS MORE ENSEMBLE MEMBERS ARE FALLING IN LINE
WITH THE SCENARIO OF STRONG CONSOLIDATED ZONAL FLOW AND ABUNDANT
PACIFIC MOISTURE. POPS HAD ALREADY BEEN INCREASED TO LIKELY FOR MON
THRU WED IN THE SIERRA FROM TAHOE NORTHWARD WHICH WILL BE
EXTENDED INTO THURSDAY FOR THIS AREA WHILE POPS WILL BE BUMPED UP TO
LIKELY FROM MON NIGHT THRU WED FOR THE SIERRA CREST IN MONO COUNTY.

SNOWPACK AROUND LAKE TAHOE MAY BE ABLE TO ABSORB RAIN AND LIMIT

In case anyone cares, I thought about heading up yesterday, but bailed when it was raining sideways in SF and at 5AM the wind was averaging 50mph and gusting to 90mph over the crest). Instead my wife and I had a wonderful breakfast with friends and then I went record shopping.
