I think we are gonna have to play it by ear, wait till tomorrow morning to see what happens.

this time, however, i am not hesitating, make a decision where to go and stick to it.

i hope like hell it snows tonight, hasn't started yet, but storm days aren't the best at the wood.

Okay, so thinking of driving up tomorrow a.m. . . . am I crazy for thinking that? Think the spur will be closed? Really not sure about my decision making, but NYE at home with some old friends sounds pretty good . . . Yeah, make a decision and don't look back, I agree :-) Though I certainly can't complain about how that day turned out!

Hell A on New Years. And I might hit Mammy on Fri/Sat.

500-mile drives are getting a little old.

spur might be closed. Shoe? but you can always just come over 50. might actually work out, cause it is looking like we are gonna end up at Sierra anyhow.

If the roads to KW are closed...you should have no problem getting to Sierra:

    http://www.sierraattahoe.com/gettinghere.html

I'm pretty sure that me and Mrs. Shoe are going to be at Sierra tomorrow. I was really looking forward to hitting some stuff at the Wood, but the forecasted winds are making things look doubtful there.......hopefully Avalanche Bowl will be open at Sierra which has a few fun hits in it.

    Kellie:

I always check out www.caltrans.com (there's a # there too to call, can't remember it offhand) in the morning for road updates prior to heading up to KW. If I see that the Spur is closed, then I'll take 50 to 89 and attack from the South Lake side.

I'll PM you both my cell phone #.

    shoe,

Avalanche bowl at the wood is most definitely open, as are all those trees above it. In fact, as it is not quite as filled in as last year when we hit it, it should be even more fun. kind of looks like a big playground right now. huge boulders and trees. we will have to lap it in order to get the run out nice and fast.

Appears this big storm is going to be similar to Monday's big dump with very high winds, few feet of snow at similar 4>5k snow level. Should be peaking during New Years daytime hours then waning as front passes sometime in afternoon to evening. Then forecast is for snow showers from pool of colder air behind front to last thru night and into Friday. Mach windy storms are never my choice to storm ski. So Friday morning early in Cornice lot is shaping up as plan. A note on SR88. Caltrans the last couple years has been doing an excellent job getting Carson Spur open by 6>7am in morning.

Tuesday was fine but nowhere near the epic deep fluff glory of last Friday. Many exposed areas on KW actually have less snow now due to severe wind scour. Lots of bomb debris below Wall. Was actually fun skiing the wind pack surfaces in places where it was smoothed out like a rolling billiard table . And down below in trees was fine though skied more like a foot instead of 24-30" reported. Eagle Bowl had huge wierd wind scallops all over which was awkward for me but road chair with ol acquaintance D... who was on his No Ka Ois and said he had a gas airing them wind lips. With a big load of new snow atop the nasty wind pack now covering many of the steep ridge top drops, there will likely be considerable avy work necessary for things to open on Friday. -dave

I'll be at Sierra tomorrow. Then prolly KW Fri & Sat. Dunno where to meet though....I'll be doing laps in the trees in WEst Bowl I'd think.

Umm Hey guys. Thanks for the repay of the positive vibes on your good fortune of snow. I remember last year when you guys had very poor conditions and were posting about it. Seems many East coast maggots stepped up and did snow dances, offers to Ullr, and posted nothing but good karma back to you guys to help turn your season around, when you posted endless posts about it. We didn't forget you.

Thank you for helping us out. Thanks for thinking of us in our time of need.

    Happy New Years!!!

    Haaalllooooo!

So just recently, me, Telenater, Arty50 and the Walters were sitting here drinkin' the Champagne, and discussing the fabulous snow we're about to have in, oh, about 8 hours at Sierra-at-Tahoe!!! Wah-hooo!! Arty can't wait, because he's been away waaaaaaaay too long, and I just can't WAIT to ski at another ski resort besides Kirkwood (ok, so YES, I'm a gaper!!) mmmheh, heh!! We're not really sure where to meet up, but I'm (we're) the only NEEEEERRDS online at this most excellent hour, so I doubt we'll get any response. Nate is pretty much passing out right beside me at this moment (No, Nate...) so I can't really ask him anything...but anyhow we'll be at SAT tomorrow...where to meet? Ok he's up so I'm sure he'll post something amusing (or not).

Anyway, I've overstepped my welcome on this board, so I'm outtie and can't wait to ski tomorrow!!!

I guess that a reply is incumbent upon me now (you know I'm drunk when I start using words like incumbent on the internet).

I deny any allegations that I was "passed out" I was merely obeying DG's request that I not do any "backseat driving" during her posting episode. Can I help it if I just polished off a 22oz Arrogant Bastard Ale (fitting for me wouldn't you say)? Actually, I'm disgustingly sober right now. I drove for dinner and didn't drink much there and then sat and got tired while listening to pre New Year drivel. Then the high alcohol beer got drunk.

Anyways, enough rambling. I officially protest the claims that I passed out and that DG might even insinuate that my passing out on the floor near her might have "ulterior motives." I'm a good boy....

See you all at Sierra tomorrow. I'll have the video camera and maybe even let people see my first attempt at editing video.
