    Insta-tele on Freerides

Yeah I know this has beaten to death....
But other day(which was only my second day on my freerides) they went into tele mode twice. I was not skiing hard, I'm not that aggresive of a skier, and I only weigh a 130 pounds. I'm sure there was no snow under the heel, and that they were fully locked down. So whadya think the problem is?
    Bad mounting?
    Faulty heel piece?
I am really just a super rad skier who is too good to ski on freerides?

Well as you know they should not be doing that. Take them back to the shop and ask about the mounting and have them test it.

You are probably super rad...but as BZ says, take them to a shop. If you are on a super flexy ski, this will happen but a bad mount will too.

Something to check is to make sure that the red bumper under the brake is not touching the ski. This may cause the insta tele mode.

Lynn Lynn the city of sin, you never come out the way you went in.

Were you skiing icy big east coast bumps?

    Is your ski soft?

It was actually pretty soft(well atleast for EC stanards), no moguls, just crud.

I was on Inspired Bigs, so yeah there pretty soft, but IMO not soft enough for me to flex them enough to go into free heel mode

Give me a reasonable explanation of why you think this could possibly be true and I won't accuse you of talking out of your ass.

The bumper is designed to be in contact with the ski. It gives the binding extra lateral stability and reduces side to side slop.

The binding goes into tour mode when the ski is flexed too far. If the heelpiece is mounted even a millimeter or two too close to the toe, it takes far less flex to release. Therefore, a seemingly small mounting error can have major ramifications. This is a plausible answer to the original question.

My fritchis have only ever gone into tour mode when skiing down trails, and inadvertently sliding back down a bump, burying the tails. When the tails are stuffed, snow will build under the lever and pop it up.

I weigh 200 pounds, tend to keep my skis on the snow, and generally suck. But I'm not a finesse skier, either.

If the bumpers are touching the skis without any pressure this could mean that the heel piece could be mismounted.

Sell frichis remount w/ Naxo nx21.
    Lockable
    Higher din
Better torsional stability (according to LD any way)
    dual pivot
    =
    a better product

What! You can tele on freerides? Sweeeeeeet.
Why don't people refer to that as insta-tour mode? Anywho, I would say they are mounted wrong. If you can flex a ski so hard that it pulls the bar out of the heel peice you should be in Torino right now! That just shouldn't happen.

My guess is too soft a ski.

I have some Rossi Scratch BCs that popped once this year when I got really backseat and really flexed the ski bigtime. I really had the ski bending hard, so the Freeride heel popped. I wondered if 165 lbs on a 176 would do that and yes, they can.

I plan on new skis next year.

guys - the man is 130 lbs! Unless we're talking the bastard child of a PR and a K2 with delam, its not a ski flex issue. Its a mismount issue. The heel piece is too close to the toepiece. Let me dig up a picture.

Here's the thread with the pic http://www.tetongravity.com/forums/s...ting+fritschis

LeeLau thanks for the link. After looking at that pic I can tell you that it isnt the mount, it is mounted perfectly fine. So my conclusion is that the first free-heel was caused by skiing kinda out of control in the backseat, and the second one was because there was snow stuck in the heel because I didnt clean it out properly after the first free heel.
