You know what I love? I love it when I'm in the right hand lane, the highway is deserted, one lone car/truck passes me in the right hand lane, and then signals and pulls in right in front of me (like one car length) usually spraying my windshield with rocks!

How is it possible to be "passed in the right hand lane" when you're already in it?

I own a 2.5 RS, and where it is no were near as fast as a WRX, I can at least try and throw my opinion in about how people drive them. I would totally agree that there are tons of asshat drivers that drive wrx's out there. They smoke me at lights, and scare the bejesus out of me on the roads. I've almost been run off the road by a subie going up little cottonwood too. What drives me nuts is that everyone who gets in these things think they are the king. They are fast, and can handle like a dream, so what is there to worry about? The truth is none of them have any idea how to handle their cars in any sort of situation where the car breaks loose, and when it does, get the fuck out of the way. Whats going on? I cant turn! The car is skidding off the road! I thought all wheel drive ruled. Fuck that, all wheel drive is the craziest thing when it breaks loose. The first time I ever got my RS to break loose it scared the shit out of me. Most of these kids never really understand the handling characteristics of their subies, and they probably never will. One day it hits them, when they try to push the nose back into the corner and have no clue how to get it around because the entire time they never take the foot off the gas. Maybe its just me...but I never felt good going in a corner and coming out of one with the same amount of gas on the entire way through. Push it through right? ha....I am definitely not a race car driver, or a physics professor, but I have had my share of scary experiences related to driving, and now I rarely go more than 5 over, and when I decide to push it I am always keeping the other drivers and risk to a minimum, and hell...I'd rather drive on dirt anyways...

No offense to anyone who can actually drive their wrx's either...cuz I know your out there, you are just seriously out numbered...

Sorry, I meant passed in the left hand lane

I'm in the right hand lane, some passes me in the left hand lane, and feels the need to pull into the right hand lane as soon as they are passed my front bumper. Of course, I'm not talking about the people who pass me, pull in front of me and then slow down I'm talking about the people who maintain their speed, but why they can't maintain it in the left hand lane, or at least wait more then a car length to pull in front of me, I'll never understand

They are fast, but actually the stock WRX understeers like a pig, and the brakes are nothing to write home about either ... it's all relative I guess.

No surprise to me that the % of asshat WRX drivers is quite high. WRX's are a lotta bang for the buck making them all too accessible for "kids" ... it's become THE most aftermarket tuned, tweaked and modified car out there (displacing the Honda).

I wonder what the percentage of WRX owners is for which it's their first car ?

What the fuck are you comparing it too? Your Ferrari or Porsche?

And if you have a nice set of snows on the thing, I doubt that you will hardly ever experience it "breaking loose".

Yeah I'm probably a little picky when it comes to handling, but any garden variety rear-wheeled preferably German car will belittle it in the handling and braking department (the suby ABS algorithim is a joke ... ).

I've got some Dunlop's that'll let me climb up ice falls, but the soft tires make the handling worse, which is why I keep the rear tires 5 psi lower than the fronts ... that effectively balances the car and it's cheaper than a beefier rear sway bar.

You're right that it's tough to break a stock suby loose ... because they push like a pig. My guess is that's why so many asshat inexperienced drivers are getting into trouble when they modify their suspension to be "cool" ... now the car oversteers and they don't know what to do with it.

Paging Roo, paging Roo, please come to the nearest white phone.

(how can you even mention a rear drive bimmer in a thread like this?)

I'll agree that the stock Impreza WRX does push a little more than I'd personally like (an Evo has a slightly more agreeable balance) but by the same token it's churlish to compare the performance of an AWD Subaru on snow tyres to any RWD BMW.

    FYI....

    "CHURLISH"
    Adjective
S: (adj) churlish (rude and boorish)
S: (adj) churlish (having a bad disposition; surly) "churlish as a bear"- Shakespeare

I think YoEddy just got owned but I now have no idea what either he or roo is talking about. I get the impression that Yo is mis-regurgitating what he reads in the motoring press, an ironic situation to be sure.

And Dr.Evil I agree that is obnoxious, especially hate it when going down a hill and the person is on the brakes while passing and then while moving over, hey sketch ball, fuck off.

I still will take that over being passed by some J/A in the breakdown lane when there's any traffic at all. Especially in the snow.

Roo infact knows what he is talking about while YoEddy is just spouting what his rice buddies tell him and the experience he had driving his mom's 323.

    Churlish? Moi ?
Like I said originally it's all relative, and I didn't start out to compare them ... just wanted to clarify that the wrx doesn't "handle like a dream".
That said though ... I love my wrx - for me it's the perfect all-season kid/bike/stuff hauling grocery getter.

    Yeah, I got owned.

Heh heh. Rice buddies? My mom's 323 ? Wish I was young enough to have rice buddies, and the last time I drove one of my parents cars it was the early 80's. I believe it would have been the Renault 18, but my favorite car of theirs was the Citroen 2CV.

I can guess that Roo knows what he's talking about since he's been called in for reference, but how do you come to the conclusion that I don't? Ohhh, is it becuase I drive a wrx?

Hey Roo and Benny - how many wrx pilots do you think know that it's called a bimmer and not a beemer?

    YoEddy-

just to save you getting owned further perhaps you should do a search for some Roo posts that contain the word...uhhhhmmmm...errr.... ring.

My subaru legacy L wagon handles like a warm, wet dish rag in a bowl of hot beef stew.

More importantly, how many WRX drivers actually give a shit what they're called?

    Keep digging little astronaut.
