    Asshat Drivers

    Dateline - February 6, 2006 - Washington D.C.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ("NHTSA") announced today that as a class of drivers people driving all-wheel drive ("AWD") cars have officially passed those driving both minivans and sport utility vehicles ("SUVs") as the "worst" most bone headed dumb assed dickwad drivers in the United States. Usually the NHTSA does not single out a specific model of car but in this case they have identified those driving Subaru WRXs as easily the worst drivers on the roadways. The NHTSA cited the superb handling and powerful engine as among the factors that cause otherwise mild mannered men and women to drive WRXs with their heads rammed firmly up their asses...
    emphasis mine

Holy shit but did I see a lot of dumb fuckers out in those things over the weekend. I've about run out of patience with these little bastards and just as a friendly reminder: me and the semi truck that you cut off, either one will FUCKING CRUSH YOUR LITTLE PIECE OF SHIT RICE ROCKET. Please learn to just chill, you're only making the backups worse with your asshat agressive driving and changing lanes 25 times in 3 miles got you exactly....3 cars FURTHER BEHIND me.

Thank you for allowing me to vent a bit.

not two rain on your I-70 hate parade, but being back in UT over the weekend reminded me that the worst drivers on the planet are the morons in RWD rentals who drive right past the "CHAINS OR 4WD REQUIRED" signs with the yellow lights flashing.
They then speed up at the first few passing places only to slow to 8 mph when they start to fishtail.
    asshooooooolee.

Pa- There's a lot of people here that drive them little fuggin things (WRXs, loutbacks, A4-8s, V XC's etc...etc...etc...): If they're not jagoffs then they're not and they shouldn't be bothered. After all the nature of a stereotype is that they're not perfectly applicable.

That said, day in and day out the AWD sedan/wagoners are fucking awful at driving.

woodsy- Oh yeah, I love them people too. Ain't such a big problem here though, those people usually take the expresses (which are a big problem).

As a whole I would have to agree that most wrx drivers are right up there with some of the dumbest drivers out there. That said- I drive a wrx and I drive it pretty mellow and do not drive it like most of the assholes out there- I do not cut people off or speed in and out of cars so just make sure you don't stereotype all wrx drivers. I do not wish to be lumped in with most asshats just because of the car I drive so don't get all agro on me just cause of what I drive you fuckin dipshit (not intended at you but I have encountered some wrx hatred while just minding my own business on the freeway)

IMO, and as a WRX owner, I see more morons driving pickup trucks than WRXs.
It's especially great at night when Mr. Ram 3500 gets 2" behind ya blinding you with his high beams.

Can't let regular SUV owners off the hook either. On the way back from Breck this morning I was almost rear ended by an SUV sliding at 30 mph. Luckily I looked in my rear view mirror and was able to turn my car just slightly to the left as the SUV went sliding into the snowbank on the side of the road.

    they dont bother with chains.
once you pass the BIG FUCKING SIGN WITH YELLOW FLASHING LIGHTS
there are not too many places to chain up.

I wrote a letter to the SL County council thaty a great revenue source and way to make the roads safer would be to triple the fines for it andactually enforce it.

and LB, does it make you mad they go better up hill in snow than you?

Plenty of idiots drive all kinds of vehicles. I will say that when I've been passed in the storm by some jackass, and I later see said jackass on the shoulder, said jackass is most often in an SUV or 4wd pickup, rarely an AWD car, WRX or not. I say this as the owner of an '04 Suburban.

woodsy- nope, I couldn't care a bit how well they do or do not perform in the snow vis a vis my truck. Performance is relative, asshole driving is absolute

comeon- there's gotta be more indignant werxers than just funken and nutjob!

I haven't noticed many terrible drivers driving WRX's, but I think that is because I live in Old-people-paradise. I am more concerned with people driving ten under the limit, forgetting to make right-on-reds, turning from straight lanes and going striaght from turning lanes, etc. then worring about young people whiping around and cutting me off.

I agree with Funken, at least for this area. Pick up drivers, especially guys in BIG pick ups, are terrible. Talk about tailgaiting, they love to ride up my ass and blast their high beams in my rear views.

LB, not trying to say you are one of those guys, that just seems to be the trend around here, were big trucks are all anybody wants. (Except me, I love little cars)

I drive a WRX wagon, and I drive like a total freakin lunatic!

Don't get me started on minivan drivers, who think they are driving a WRX. Or people that drive with cellphones in the leftmost lane - that is the worst.

Still working on the edit function... Forgot to add the kicker before posting.

Did anyone see the two SUV wrecks on the way up to Kirkwood yesterday on 88? Too fast for the conditions and they just rolled over when they hit a small patch of ice. On a different note I was heading up 88 about a month ago when I got passed on 88 by an asshat in a WRX at the crest of a hill, the driver was kind enough to show me his bird mid pass - a cop was waiting on the other side and picked him and the car infront of him off. The cop waived me by.

Wow, I guess I'm an asshat.

I do not go in and out of lanes when traffic is tight, but when it opens up, yeah I do haul ass.

And I don't really care if anyone thinks I am an awful driver.

for those who find themselves oft tailgated a really simple and stunningly effective way to stop it is to wash your windshield. Works almost every time, I have no idea why though.

Mcwop- I take no offense nor intend to defend pickup or suv drivers, they bad too. Hell, probably a full 35% of people shouldn't be allowed to drive IMNSHO.

So people don't follow as closely when you have a clean windshield?

I think the idea is that they get sprayed by your washers and realize that, if they're that close, maybe they should backdafuckup.

The question is - why are people tailgating you? If you are going 80 mph in the left lane, then maybe that is why. I'm sick of these fucking idiots who think they can just camp out in the left lane. Why not just move over when you know you can move over.

yeah but you already cracked that car up so we knew it already (<---note explicit use of smilies eh)

funken- the water gets on their windshield if they're too close (even works with my quite long truck). I have no insight into the thought process that causes people to back off (or pass you) but it works...almost like magic or something.

The windshield thing doesn't work for me because it doesn't really get shot over my car like many other models. I also agree with the 35% have no business driving.

On a different note, how do you guys feel about honking? I use my horn quite a bit, but rarely when it is unwarented. Case in point:

Last thurdsay, while driving home from a Pens game, I am sitting behind a minivan at a t-intersection red light. We are on the street in the T where you can only go left or right, not straight. There is no turning lane. It is late, there is little traffic on either road, and the guy in the minivan sat there with his right turn signal on. He sat for a good ten seconds with no cars coming, so I blipped my horn, just trying to remind him that he can turn.

My blip had no effect, so I gave him a double blip, and again, go nothing, although I know he heard it because he pulled up a few feet and stopped again. This time I laid on the horn until he got annoyed and made the right. As he is pulling out his woman in the passanger seat flips me the bird, so naturally I flip one back as I pass them when they pull into a turning lane a few hundred feet after making the right red.

Ok, so the story kind of sucks, but I am just wondering, was I wrong to honk? I probably shouldn't have given them the finger back, but did I derserve to be flipped off for honking when they were being pretty damn stupid?
