Fisher Atua? Buy Today? How Stiff?

    Hey all,

I'm skiing old 179 Monster 85's right now that are BEAT up. Need a new ski. Looking for somthing a little longer, wider, and around the same stiffness. Found a good deal on the Atua- any experiences? Mostly is it stiff and stable enough at speed?

    Thanks, kb

they are a really fun ski. All wood, no metal in them, so lots of energy out of turns. If it helps your buying any, I had my pops on a set of atuas at alta today, he was coming off of the ~75mm Atomic Rex.
He said they were one of the best skis hes been on. I have skied them as well, and am close to trading my SV for a set. lots of fun, stable at speed. If you want to mach though, look to a 189Seth or Gotama. Tons of fun on the groomed too.

Great fun.... until you hit some avi debris or other dense snow causing the front half of the ski to feel like it's going to fold up and pluck out your eyeball Uma Thurman style.

I agree. The Watea is a quiver ski. They make a nice complement to my Asteroids.

Ya, that was me. So I bought them and left them to get mounted with Look P14 bindings, or what turned into P14's anyway. However, they don't make wide brakes for them anymore and the shop couldn't bend the ones on them. They gave me a free voucher to demo some skis, but the Atua's were out. I demoed the Watea's. Really fun ski, easy to ski, but too soft in the front. I'm sure if these are the Atua's would be as well. The shop guy was so confident this wouldn't be the case he said I could get a full refund AFTER the mount if I didn't like them. He thought I should do this instead of demo. Odd. Anyway, now that I don't think I'll like them as much as other's I'll probably return them and buy a Mantra in a 184.... if I can find some. Should be easy since they were never mounted.

from what BB has said the atuas ARE definitely stiffer than the wateas, thats why he rides them. I think its worth a shot, wait another day and get a demo on them though.

If the Atuas are stiffer than Wateas, then the Watea is the softest ski ever made because Atuas are only _slightly_ stiffer than a Pocket Rocket.

For what it's worth, the Prohetes (106's) are even softer than the Watea's, and the Atua's don't get limp and die like Pocket Rockets. Next years Watea's are supposedly stiffer, but it sure didn't feel like much at SIA.

The auta may be the most playful ski I have ever tried, yet it is very damp and stable. There are stiffer pow skis that hold a better edge on hard snow, but Autas are really fun in the soft

I finally did the Atua demo. It's a good ski. The beefed up Pocket Rocket analogy is kind of true. It's definitly an easy/playful ski, but is still fairly stable in crud/speed. However, the tip is soft and there is some chatter on hard conditions. A good, fun ski- but not an every day ski for me.
