SUMMIT '06 - hook me up thread...and other stuff

    x-post from Summits forum.....(check it!!)

Ok, let's hook each other up - those of us actually going to the Summit this year!!

    This is what I need:

---Info on renting a 4wd or all-wheel drive vehicle. What car rental agencies in Seattle rent these vehicles? There will be 4 of us eventually sharing it, all with ski/board equipment, so it needs to be big enough to fit all our stuff. An aero-star (should I even say it???) mini-van (eek!) would be ideal, I think...

---Any sort of hook-ups on lift tickets for Seattle area resorts and for Whistler.

Also this is a pull for those of you who are clueless regarding the MAGGOT SUMMIT 2006. Yes, you're clueless. It's happening, and it's in March in Seattle AND Whistler. Check the Summits form. Click "back" and then "back" again, and then click on "Summits" or something.

    Thanks!

Basically, all the major agencies rent some 4wd/awd type of rig out of Seatac.

Assuming the dates of 3/3-3/12, the rate budget quotes is $670 for that ten days for a full size SUV. Hummer is $690 for the same period @ budget.

A subie outback OR SIMILAR is $399/week at hertz, so about $571 for that period. A GMC Envoy or 4 runner is 579.71 at Hertz for that time.

    I'll survey more later.

Thanks Buster!!! I think Lego is going to call Hertz today and go through AAA so we can get a better deal. Since we're sharing the car between 4 people, it shouldn't cost too much.

Pick up cheap(er) W/B day tickets at a 7/11 in Vancouver. WA residents can grab a 1-day edge card and save that way.

Isn't there a convenience store in Squamish that sells discount W/B tix? Last time I was there was 4 years ago, so the memory is fuzzy.

I think the North Van. 7/11s are the last stop for discounted tix.

Haggen in Bellingham also has discounted tics, but I don't know how they compare to 711.

Discount Whistler tickets can also be bought in Seattle at Evo. (Shameless plug for Seattle's finest and most unique shop).

The road's paved all the way to Whistler now so most 2wd vehicles with good tires should be fine. Any fwd minivan would be deluxe. If you're nice the rental place may even take out the 3rd row seat freeing up a lot of space.

7-11 Fast Tracks lift tickets are $63+GST. They're direct-to-lift so just attach them and get in line. The last 7-11 with tickets used to be the one in Squamish next to the MacDonalds -- the first one coming from Vancouver. If all the maggots stop there then they might run out...

    edit: that's Canadian dollars

I did a travelocity search for an SUV and found that Enterprise had the cheapest rate at $457.30 for that 10 day period.
Next was Thrifty @469, Alamo @ 515 and then National @ 531, all with Seatac pickup and dropoff.

p.s 15" new at Crustal this morning. It's so filled in (obligatory bra ref here: )!

Don't let these folks dissuade you from the awd/4wd decision. Especially if you want to ski around the Puget Sound.

Thank you everyone - great help.

My concern is, when car rental places say "SUV" (and correct me if I'm wrong) - this doesn't necessarily mean 4WD. There are some people who actually buy huge SUVs without the 4WD option which baffles me. ANyway, I think the best way is to go thru AAA, but Buster's findings may sway us as to which rental company we use. Thanks!

So, a hijack - I twisted on my knee this morning and may have re-injured it so very slightly. Luckily I still have 4 weeks to recover.....grrrrrrr.
