    Foot pain (paging Vinman)

Why the hell is it so sore at the 4th metatarsal over the cuboid? No injury, I regularly stretch my feet out during and after work (10 hours on my feet), about due for new work shoes ...

Any suggestions on how to get it to go away?

4th metatarsal head over the cuboid? Do you mean base of the 4th where it articulates with the cuboid? Either way that is kind of a strange place to have foot pain without having some kind of injury mechanism?

    A couple questions?

Have you dropped anything on it?
    Banged it on anything?
Stepped wrong doing a patient transfer?
    How old are your shoes?
Is it only work that bother it? i.e. skiing doesn't bother it...
Doing anything thing else, i.e working out? and if so what?

I fractured my cuboid like 10 years ago and haven't had any problems since. I haven't dropped anything on it, no injury, no wacky patient transfers. My shoes are probably 3 months old and I'm going to switch from Crocs to my running shoes tomorrow at work to see if that makes a difference.

Skiing doesn't bother it, running doesn't bother it. It's really just tender when I put pressure (with my fingers) or intentionally roll my foot outwards. I do have a touch of plantar fasciitis on this foot, but it seems to be healing nicely.

the change in shoes is a good idea. Other than that not sure what to tell you except treat it like any other musculo-skeletal injury. Ice after work, warm soaks other wise. Maybe get some off the shelf arch supports (green superfeet or similar).
