    Flying under the radar

    Here's an interesting situation:

I found a place to live in New York City, but I cannot move in til Jan 15. The movers are coming to collect all my stuff on Jan 7 and 8th. My new boss knows this. I have been just hanging out since I got back to LA on Dec 18. I am on full boat salary and supposed to be "getting my shit together for moving".

My new boss has only vaguely suggested that I should be doing anything kind of "work-related". The company that I'm going to work for has a couple of LA locations that I could be working at, but no one in LA really knows that. Last night I had a meeting with my new boss and some of the principles. He said to just report to him in New York on Jan 19 once I'm moved in, and "work on getting familiar with some of the new systems".

So, I'm thinking this means I'm just hanging out for another 8-9 days before the movers come and then taking 10 more days to drive across the country.

Should I call him up and say, umm, I'm not doing anything and you're paying me a bunch of money, do you want me to do something? Or should I just go to Mammoth again?

So far this new job is really good

You don't want to be a total slacker so get the manuals for the "new systems" and take them to Mammoth.

You should also get onto the e-mail distribution so you can get meeting minutes and get in the loop (assuming they have meetings and minutes). Review after skiing. Now's a good time to get set up for tele-commuting (assuming you can) so that you can slack off in the future.
If you have a problem & think that someone else is going to solve it for you then you have two problems.
