    Skins and Twin Tip skis

I'm currently in the market for a new pair of powder skis. Most of the time, I ski on ski lifts, but I've got a pair of Trekkers and BD Clip-Fix skins that I use when I do any backcountry skiing. Looking at most of the powder skis out there now, it seems like a large percentage have twin tips, and it doesn't look like the BD clip-fix skins would work very well on the rounded tails.

Has anyone used the BD clip-fix skins on a twin tip ski with any success, or do they need to be modified slightly?

    Thanks.

I used to use some with my pimps, and they stayed on okay most of the time, but a lot of people just make a little notch in the ski. the sts system works better.

    Clip-Fix suck on twins.

Swap it out for the STS tail or go with the rat tail method.

I have the STS tail on my gotamas and they work great.

    Do a search -- you'd find this:

I never did get skins for those Kahunas, but did follow the recommendations for the STS kit and mounted skins on Nordica Beasts (also a twin tip) for an AT setup.

twins, or skis like the bros that have a somewhat twinned tail, can create issues for skin attachments. with a rubber rat tail (G3, BD etc) it can still slip off to the side, althought it's better than a clipfix. you can't dremel in a notch, since the edge is in the way.

for my bromodels, which are my go-to BC boards, I cut a small piece from a bike tire and screwed/epoxied it on the topsheet just at the center of the tail. works extremely well for keeping the G3 rat tail clip in place on those big vert days. the tire rubber provides friction, shims things up a bit.

the usual advice would be to not use the clipfix for a twin tip, unless it was a twin with a flattish profile on the end. however if you really wanted to use the clipfix, i imagine that putting on a piece of tire rubber like i did could help.
