    Need Jackson Hole Photo Beta

I'm looking for pictures of the Casper Bowl area at Jackson. Taken this season would be stellar but anything at all would be helpful.

Is this the area? Is there normally less snow than this?

Here's a few pics of the Chute on far skiers right.

    when is the comp?

    is that terrain open usually?

inside or out of the marked skiarea?

no interest in the comp, nice to watch and even nicer to ski when we are in town in 3 weeks

Don't know when the comp is, but that area is lift-served backcountry... basically, you need to do about 10-15 minutes of hiking + some traversing. You need to exit the gates.

Can't claim to be anything approaching an expert seeing as I have skied all of 4 days at Jackson, but If memory serves me Casper is In bounds. You have to enter it through certain gates but they aren't the ski area boundary gates. If I'm talking out of my ass then those in the know can shoot me down/JONG away.

PS- Damn you all for posting those pics. They just serve to remind me that 4 days is not nearly enough time in Jackson.

Casper Bowl is in bounds. I was just out there for a week and it's my third time out there. The easiest way to access it is to hike up to the Headwall from the Bridger Gondola. Then just go through the gate to the right (looking up the mountain) and it goes all the way over till you reach the gate for The Crags.

Umm, depends on definitition of "easy"

The simplest way up (and quickest, hence the name "the workingman's route") is to take the bootpack up the headwall from the top of the gondi.

The easiest way up in terms of the hike, is to bootpack from the top of the Cirque (get there from the Tram or Subletter Chair), then traverse the ridgeline above the headwall.

I used to ski Casper a lot more before they put in the Gondi, and added a stoopid traverse from there into lower Casper Bowl. -now the bottom of the bowl is a mogul field most of the time. Used to be pow all the way down. [/end rant]

    find skijunky

for reference on the next photo below- the drop into the chute slightly lookers left of center looked like a solid 40ft. we watched someone drop it from a long distance. you may be able to pick out his bombhole.

and the profile shot of the middle:

if you think like me (and my mind writes checks my body can't cash), the multi stager line in view there would be pretty, uh...nifty.

I mean, not that I had any interest in the Casper area.

Casper Bowl would make a great comp venue. I hope it goes down. Any word on what the venues will be. Side note: Jackson will be dripping with brobrah 'tude for the comp, it'll be sick..ening.

heh, it might be advisable to get to the Village Cafe early. Then you can have prime real estate to place your prototype skis and sip your pbr

I feel you on that....used to be a pretty long untracked line for not much hiking.

Well the annoying part is that the traverse from the Gondi to lower casper bowl is bullshit, and doesn't get you any decent terrain.
    Its a complete tourist route.

they should just have a closed rope there.
Lower Casper should be reserved for headwall hikers.
