Managing multiple ipods in one itunes account...

...seems to be beyond me. I was doing it with playlists but updating to 6.xx deleted all playlists and now it's all a mess.

Anyone know a simple way to keep a large central library and varied smaller playlists on individual ipods?

And is there a limit to how many ipods can access one itunes account? itunes sees the latest addition to the family but I can't seem to put any music on it at all. With the mini that blew up, the latest nano makes six ipods that have been linked to this account.

itunes help and ipodlounge (it should be callled ipodquestionsbutnoanswerslounge) are no help that I can find.

Thank you for answering this entirely ski-related question.

I've had 4 different ipods on my itunes account without a problem. Whenever I plug a new one in, I have to immediately cancel the auto update and set it to manual update (I'm guessing you've tried this?) Then again, I haven't upgraded to 6.whatever.

With 6.x, you have to cancel the auto update and set it to manual update or else the new addition is grayed out and is not subject to drag-n-drop. Once you go manual, be sure to eject manually.

Thanks Yeti, switching it to manual fixed the problem. I should have posted here first instead of trying to figure out the answer myself!
