Cheapest way to have skiis shipped from Europe?

I have a couple pair of skis in Germany that I want to ship here. Taking them back myself is not convenient. Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to ship skis over from europe? Last year, there was this guy from Denmark shipping for $35. USPS, FedEx, UPS and DHL want over $100.

Know anybody flying accross the pond that can check them as luggage?

I've sent skis from both Denmark and Norway to the US via standard mail for like 40-45usd with the current exchange rates.

This seems good. The only problem is that USPS advises that while the box can have total length X girth dimension of 108", it can be no longer than 60". I would have to cut them in 1/2.

Know anyone that's stationed over there in the Military? They have USPS offices on the bases/posts and the rates are the same as if you had shipped from New York.

For parcel post on USPS webpage they say for parcel post it's 130 inches length + girth and no mention on a limit on total length...

I wish that this was correct, but when I plugged everything in, I got this:
    http://ircalc.usps.gov/intl_speed.as...nds=9&Ounces=0

    I.E. max. length = 60".
Also, you can not initiate a shipment via USPS from Germany. ...Only US address initiation or APO. Thanks for trying to help me out, though.

There's got to be a way to do this. Call any of the german ski manufacturers, and ask them how they ship skis to the US.

Like I said find someone that's stationed (US army/air force) over in Germany and have them send the skis to you. They're not considered "Global" that way and there's not the length restriction on them.
