Zeedash, I will get that Burn tour one of these days- if not this weekend, then perhaps the next.
Well, does arty need a proper Baker tour, or are you guys up for something new and fun and exciting like a trip out to Stoneman or something?

The Burn kind of sucks for access. And you've got to really make sure you're back by the chair by 3:30, or else you've got a long slog out about 10k on the nordic trails to the highway.

    Yes & Yes.

I'm thinking at least one "Baker proper" tour out to the Arm, conditions pending, would be in order. But I also like new 'fun & excitement'

I plan on going to ski bowl
I think this is the first reference to ski bowl I've read on this forum. Please bring back some pics to show all these Washingtonians what the OR Alpental is all about.

I'll be at Baker Sunday, but will not be able to tour. Anyone looking for a few inbound laps at opening bell, I'll be at my usual table by 8:00.

    ski bowl

The backside of ski bowl, Tom, Dick, and Harry Peak, when the snow level is consistently low, has some of the best terrain up at hood. Open steep bowls, chutes, cliffs and whatnot. But the avy danger is quite high, considering the pitch is between 30 and 45 degrees. They've received a half foot at govt camp so far and are forecast for another foot by the end of this storm.

I will be digging pits up on the ridge to test stability after crossing into the bc up high in the outback on saturday. (hopefully letting the snow settle a bit after.) If the pack seems stable, or not, I'll report back here so people will have an idea if they want to venture out.

I would love to take pics to show you guys that we've got goods here. But I don't have a digi camera. All my $$$$, teacher salary, went into a bc setup for the season. Luckily its getting good use.

There are a few heading to Alpental, but I'm not sure about Stevens.
BC-Flow, Girlski, Greydon, Joshbu, possibly Buster and some others, and I will be introducing Arty50 to pucker factor of Alpental (provided patrol opens some gates). Then off to Baker for Sunday. If you want to join us, we'll be meeting up at Alpy bright & early.

Sounds like Buster provided you with his "patented" tour de pow today

Buster tours are ones not to be trifled with! There could be 1" of dust on rain crust and he'll still find you at least a foot of blower somewhere.

no, you suck for access. freakin sissys all around me. you ski hamburger hill right to the base then climb. or you could do the tri-fecta: florida lee to josephine to burn. now that i'm in climbing shape i'd say it'll only take two hours to get to the top.

    LOUD NOISES!!!!

Squirrel: Stoneman is kind of an all-day ordeal, and I think it'll get too warm on Herman's anyhow. But we'll find something else, or I'll show you a couple things you haven't skied before that aren't too difficult to get too.

Alpy was sick today, 21 new by day's end, appx 8% blower....easily 26 deep in many places like Shot 6 that was constant face shots, if you avoided the avy debris, which was pretty much all over UI and even LI....

Elevator gate never opened, in fact, 'trol closed Snakedance for a while to get the poachers out of Ele...They did send a crew out the Lower Traverse.....but lots of new on top of the slide layer from mon nite to Wed= sketchy.

Thurs, I think it was, a 20 inch crown slab released from the slope above the left side of UI, and hosed 30 yr vet Snowq Pass Head Avy ranger Craig Wilbur and his wife Annie abt 500 vert down....they were swimming to stay afloat according to witnesses. No injuries, but Annie lost a ski. This is the third inbounds avy to release from above in the last 10 days==Lizard bowl at Fernie, Cockalorum at Whistler---all slammed into skiers......Scary stuff!!!

Be careful out there! ski with a partner....

It looks like it quit snowing just after I left at 3:30....could be a photo day tomorrow!!!

Ecstatic ethereal ephemeral. They dropped the rope to Penny Dog @ 2:00 and it was just too freaking choice.

A pleasure. I'm Alpie bound tomorrow...

I triggered a small avy in the Stevens backcountry today (40 ft across, 6-12 inch crown) but was able to ski out. The area was pretty windloaded and we suspected instability but we kind of got committed to the line. I'd be wary of anything over 35 degrees this weekend (or at least on Sat).

where? fill me in (no pun intended). i saw lots of wind loading on east faces. but nothing that would qualify as an avalanche.

new to the area but I think it was called skyline/heather ridge. About a quarter of a mile out on the ridge past the radio tower, on the road side of the ridge.

Baker today was unreal. Enough sun sneaking through to give great visibility. People were skiing everything. I didn't see any slides.

sorry for the crowds on saturday- NEVER seen it that bad before; but stoked ya got the goods from Zbo & Buster. If you're in town next time and want to give alpy another chance (on a weekday!!!) we'll have to arrange a real tour.

you guyz are gonna laugh. But I had an EPIC day at Hoodoo.

18 inches of fresh on Saturday Morning.

Got in almost 20 runs without a liftline at all and fresh lines EVERY run.

    Glades, open faces, pow everywhere.

I just bought a canon a520. My first digi camera. So I can start proving my adventures soon.

So you like Hoodoo? I'm headed down to Bachelor next month but am looking to ski somewhere I haven't on the way down- was thinking Hoodoo or somewhere at Hood but Hoodoo would be less out of the way. You think Hoodoo is worth it?

    Is Hoodoo worth it?

Is any place worth it when its only 36 bucks and you get 20 runs in of untracked?

Of course. It's a nice little operation. No high speed lifts, no crowds. Mostly gapers stayin on the groomed.

I went there cause they took the most snow in the PNW prize last weekend with 18 inches.

Plenty of off piste and open faces, glades, and powder fields. I wouldn't ski it on a bad snow day though.
