5,790 Miles; 18 Days; 11 States; 7 Mountains = One Hell of a Road Trip TR

Here are the vital stats........it was quite the experience to say the least......

5,790 total miles (New York City - Denver, CO - Aspen, CO - Jackson, WY - Sun Valley, ID - Salt Lake City, UT - Hamilton College, NY)

410.6 Gallons of Gas - yes i know, thats only around 14 MPG.....it was rough

    18 Days:
    New York
    Pennsylvania
    Ohio
    Indiana
    Illinois
    Iowa
    Nebraska
Colorado - Aspen, Aspen Highlands, Snowmass
    Wyoming - Jackson Hole
    Idaho - Sun Valley
    Utah - Alta, Snowbird

I could write a novel about this trip but i will be brief. It was longer and cost more than i had expected but it was worth every minute and dollar spent. To have the freedom we had on this trip made it a unique experience. We went out with Aspen as our New Years destination but after that our calendar was clear. It started as 4 friends and ended up only being me and another friend. However, after the first week it was down to only me. Although solo for most of the trip, i had friends to stay with along the way so it was fine. The solo drive back from Alta to NY was a bitch though, that is for sure.

All i have to say though is that if you are able to take a big road trip - DO IT!! It is a great way to see the country, meet a lot of people and ski where the snow is falling. I'm tired, cracked out and sick after 36 hours on the road solo but the final day at Alta provided me with enough stoke to last for a few weeks. I didn't meet up with any maggots till Alta but when i did i saw a ton. Thanks to all that i skied with, Stump, BumZ, altagirl, mr.altagirl, altachick, rotorhead, altoid, and all the others......i can't remember all your TGR names......the 8:30 collins line up is a great scene.....can't wait to get back out there....BumZ, i might take u up on your couch offer. Coming back to the east is a real buzz kill. I miss the west. The east is cold, windy, flat and snowless. What i do know is that i will be heading west within the next few years. There are so many great towns out there. So many of you are truly living the life. I'm already checking jet-blue tickets for next few weekends.

Anyway, it's easy to ramble about all that went on, but i will share a few pictures. I planned on making a video and have some good footage but not enough. There were too many great days where the camera stayed in my bag.

Oh and my truck never had a single problem - no slow starts, not even an oil or windshield washer fluid change! They say that Land Rovers are unreliable but definately not in my case......

Here are some shots of New Years in Aspen......what a town......

    Cougar Hunting on new years........mmmmmmmmm

The only downside to not planning lodging on new years was sleeping in the back of the truck, wasted while it dumped outside.........

My buddy waking up to the realization we were sleeping on our ski gear....

Great way to bring in the new year at Snowmass....

Aspen Highlands Bowl......long hike, great turns........

Headed up to Jackson to experience the last year of the Tram......

Then i headed to a friends open house in Sun Valley Idaho. The skiing wasn't great but we got onto the river and caught ourselves a 17inch Rainbow trout...

Then it was off to Utah........Snowbird for a day and Alta for 2.....the last day i stayed at the Goldminers to wake up early for the lineup. It was only around a foot of fresh, hardly epic for locals but for me it was. Sooo creamy soft and dry, one of my best days ever.......thanks again Alta maggots......you guys rip
my line is one of those in the middle...

Stump taking a digger but recovered nicely....

    The open road........

A sunset in Iowa to wrap it up....

Don't really know what else to say, i tried to experience the local scene wherever i went and kept my options open. It seems to be one big whirl now as i get back into the grind of college but it was a trip i won't forget. So all you east coasters complaining about conditions, hop in a car and drive maggots......DRIVE!

Nice TR, but I could help myself from thinking you cake boys look like a Abercrombie Fitch or Gap commercial.

Minus 10 points for the sweaters and a big minus 50 for the scarf

+ 100 for the cougar encounter

Dude, we were in Aspen for new years............in order to hunt the cougars, we had to look sharp...........we weren't gonna get em wearing hoodies and t-shirts........

Looks sick, my best roadtrips were the ones when I was in college and went out west with no game plan. What was the longest stretch of nonstop driving you guys did? I remember Nashville to Boulder one summer, only stopping for gas and eventually a flat in Oggallala.

2002 Discovery 2 - Safari Rack with 4 hellas - Cooper M+S on 16s.......working towards a lift, BFG ATs and an ARB Bullbar......

But the rack in windy highway conditions was brutal....

Very nice! Glad the drive worked for you too, way better than flyin IMVHO.

-infinity points to YOU, FreakofSnow, for lacking any semblance of style. I will make it my personal quest working at GAP to make sure all the guys that come in leave looking like that. Haha.

Glad you had a good trip & the Disco got you there. Quick thread-drift for a moment:

Get used to it or ditch the rack. It gets worse once you get the lift & add armour, too. I feel your addiction.'96 D1 5-speed with CDL, 2" OME HD lift, Rovertracks custom steering relocator w/ OME HD dampener, QT front rack & pinion guard, QT rear diff guard, 235x85x15 BFG MTs, Wilderness rack, custom rock sliders, custom trailing-arm protection, Powertank, ARB front, True-Trac rear, custom front sway-bar removal, rear sway bar removed, numerous dents & scratches. Hella 1000s in a box; upgrading to Hella HIDs come springtime, as well as a new WARN. Yeah tax-return!
Have you considered Rovertyme's slimline bumper? Better clearance/departure angles. Looks better...

    Cheers,
    Jax

No really, you are all pussies.

Chuck Norris drove from Miami to Nome, Alaska non-stop. When he arrived 13 days later, an eskimo asked Chuck Norris about the drive. Chuck Norris punched him in the face got in his car and turned around, driving back straight to Miami.
