If it weren't for serendipity, there'd be no dipity at all
Looks like a good day, let us know how it went.
Ice/snow in Northern NJ, lost power most of the night. Go git it!

Well.. today went well and is still going well but nothing happened on snow. Not that I didn't make the attempt to poach a lift with a blacked out pass...

2 inches of rain followed by a 45degree drop = no good
2 inches of new snow accompianed by 80mph winds = still no good.
today cannot be that great day in the mountains of the east. Your only luck maybe in the woods of jay... even there they have plenty of terrain shut down, lift not running, and so on...
i thought it was winter? why the hell are we still getting rain? we need some elevation out here!
I'm curious about how it was... I saw reports of 6-8" up north, so it could have been decent depending on how heavy the snow was. I woke up this morning to no power, a 50 degree apartment, 50 mph winds and almost no snow, so I just went back to sleep...
My personal suggesting is that we appeal to the gods with ritual sacrifice, pleading that they shift the drift of the continental plates and jack us up a few thousand feetOriginally Posted by skatecow45

today was baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad
cold & windy as hell
the 50 degree tempature drop was great for conditions, as was the 4" that was completely blown off the hill
my hate for k-mart continues...

what can you expect. we live on the ice coast.Originally Posted by teambigdave
If I was there, I would have had a report for you and Benny. Not much keeps me out of the trees, especially when the wind is gusting. Can you say, windbuff face shots????Originally Posted by train07

I skied Fri/Sat/Sun...absolutely amazing how variable the conditions were...Fri soft and warm/Sat soft and very wet(in the AM)/Sun was one of the most miserable days I have ever spent outside....60mph winds blowing snow...fairly cold 5-10 degrees.....(hazardous wind chills)
It is looking cold and breezy now (Monday).....currently -2 outside. The sun is supposed to shine...and warm up to 15....so I am heading up!
Yeah, uh, Sunday was...interesting. As expected, the only lift of note open at Jay was the triple. The frozen bumps under the chair had some interesting looking drifts in them so I figured I'd give 'em a go on the first run. The idea was to stitch together a line staying in the the powder pockets and avoiding the icy crap. Bros would be tested for float, as the one person I saw attempting this was hitting bottom on each turn.
Well, the Bros came through I am happy to say. Too bad my skills weren't up to snuff and I wasn't quite able to hold my line. Good thing about this was that as I was taking a break, contemplating the next effort, a man in yellow bombs by me calling out "maggot," before skidding to a stop below me. Enter vano.
So we took a few runs in the cold (I still can't feel the tip of my finger), explored the trees (icy bumps with dense powder pockets for the most part), praised the virtues of the Bros (I had a few silent turns, while vano was scraping bottom pretty much constantly), hiked a bit in search of better conditions (kinda, sorta found it), and had some laughs after vano expertly placed himself in an open stream (no further comment necessary).
In short, it was one of those enjoyable miserable days. You know, the kind where you wonder what the fuck you're doing out there, but you're not quite willing to pack it in.
Sick and ashamed and happy (and actually did pack it in fairly early...),

Dude, I had a lot of explaining to do to the wife when I got back to the lodge. She was wondering how I managed to get rotten leaf pate in my underwear (I'm wondering too). Back hurts, neck is stiff, but still the funniest thing that has happened to me.Originally Posted by gincognito
It was good skiing with you... even with all the Bro envy.
