    Class 3.5-4 inFernie

Some of u probably heard about it. Shot down by snow safety guys on Wednesday, but nobody thought it would be this big. This pic is the start zone above Dancer... it ran all the way to the Deer trail. This was posted on Craig's site www.redtree.com

Hard to tell from the pic but the guys say the crown is 4 meters at the highest point. It ran over 1300 meters.

Now that is Biiiggg!! I wasn't around to see it, but back in the early 70's when Little Richards ran from The Throne at Crystal 4000 feet vertical, across Hwy 410 all the way to the White River, it was over 10 feet. Also Big Bertha, a slide path off Crystal Peak, which had run in the 60's, released a 13' crown back in 98-99. I believe the Rumble Gully monster slide that killed two at Mt Baker that same year was said to be about 20 feet at its highest.

Ffh, do you know how far up the slide in Lizrds that caught the folks by surprise originated from? I'm guessing the main fracture line would have been below the cliffbands as the slide in your pic was.

I got pushed down 15 feet of so by a mass of heavy moving snow today on a steep ramp at Alpental....glad there were no trees directly in the path.

I never saw it. I was out yesterday but there's been so much snow since you can't even tell there was a slide there. I would assume the start zone was at the bottom of the rocks. I've seen it slide there many times over the years. They bombed that start zone earlier in the day. There was a lot of wind on that side that day, so possibly it windloaded heavily.

Oh yeah snow report says 22cm overnight, it also says wet dense snow so I suppose it will be like cement. It rained in town heavily last night. The temp in town is +1. And Fernie has now officially broke the 3 meter mark for snowpack.

I'm gonna go for a few runs after lunch..It was a huge pow day yesterday for me, skied till I had nothing left so I'm feeling a little lazy this morning. Unfortunitly not much was opened but what was was deep.
