    pnw mags please read...

seems like common sense to me with all this new snow but,

i wish is still had p-tex lies and duct tape so i could quote the whistler snow report part.

    edit: smooches!

...AVALANCHE WATCH FOR THE OLYMPICS, WASHINGTON CASCADES NEAR
AND WEST OF THE CREST, AND THE MT HOOD AREA..

A strong storm system is expected to move into the Olympics and
Cascades midday Thursday. This system should bring significant
snowfall, or a mixture of rain and snow, to the mountains from
Thursday afternoon until midday Saturday. This should result in
a layer of heavy, dense snow on top of a weak layer of lower-
density snow that accumulated from recent cold storms. A profile
of heavy, dense snow on top of a weak layer is an unstable
profile, and this should greatly increase the likelihood of
    avalanche releases by Friday.

The Northwest Avalanche Center is therefore issuing an avalanche
watch with the expectation that the avalanche danger could
become overall HIGH by Friday. Both human-triggered and natural-
releasing avalanches should become likely, especially at
elevations above 4 to 5000 feet.

ditto that. so much snow that Baker is closed today for avy control!! That is certainly unusual...It's mixed rain and snow there this morning (as it looks to be at Xtal base also)
Warming trends are scary when this much new snow is falling...

I'm going to Alpental today, but Stevens tempts with its current 25 degree temps...

Good info. Let's keep this on the front page until things calm down in the BC. colder air on tap for Sunday into Monday. Freezing/snow levels going to continue to yo yo.
The snow doesn't give a soft white damn whom it touches.

Thanks Z...given how deep and light it was yesterday, when I saw the temps rising last night combined with another foot of snow, I started thinking along the same lines. Be careful all y'all!
I can't understand why people are frightened of new ideas. I'm frightened of the old ones.

Exclamation Beacon Basin @ Crystal is now open

Well, with Baker closed today for "stabalization" avy control work... here's a PSA I just noticed on the Xtal website that the Beacon Basin practice area is up & running. It's located near the new Campbell Basin Lodge

"Hone your transceiver skills with our new Easy Searcher Practice System located at the Campbell Basin Lodge. The Easy Searcher has multiple "victims" and three levels of difficulty. The system is free and always open. Check with ski patrol for questions."
