    Banff next week

    I am heading to Banff next week for a wedding and am wondering what is the best/your favorite of the three mountains (Ski Banff@Norquay, Sunshine Village and Lake Louise) to ski? From the stats and trail maps it looks like Sunshine Village or Lake Louise have the most to offer in the way of steeps and bowls. Should I even go to Ski Banff@Norquay? What are your recommendations and why?

    Also does anyone have some recommendations for cheap tickets? Thanks!

    SSV and Lake Louise would be your better bets, depends on fresh snow. Both are good, worth a day at each for sure. I wouldn't waste a day at Norquay unless there's a ton of fresh snow.
    Bump this when you arrive and you can likely find a tour guide amongst the nearby mags.

    thanks play - are you in the Banff area? It appears, at least in the way of posters that there are few mags in Canada. It would be good to find a guide.

    hey there, the way it has been snowing here, you can't go wrong with either right now. Lake louise has some great terrain off the summit that even if it doesn't snow the wind usually will fill it in on an run to run basis. I should hopefully be riding again come next week. i may be up for a day.

    SSV and lake are both doing really good, but I too prefer sunshine right now. Looking forward to hitting up the dive come this weekend/midweek next week. If you need someone to ride with let me know, I might be able to show you around (depending on what day)

    Sunshine was great today, lots of fresh... Snowing on and off all day, by the end of the day very poor vis. up top with lots of accum.

    I'd recommend sunshine just b/c the snow is better, give it a shot and if you need more try Louise

    Thanks for all the info. The stats and picts of Delirium look sick - average of 39 degrees and 1900 feet. Tahoe has some steeps but nothing that long! I can't wait. How often is it open? I will be skiing next week Thursday through Sunday and apparently need a buddy if I am to ski Delirium. I don't think any of the other wedding guests can nor should ride it. Play, I will pm you next week and hopefully a day will work out.

    Nice and long, can be scary, but doesn;t have to be, lots of differnt lines and options.

    It's open as long as the snowsafty guys have visibility and snow is stable for that day.. Usually opens at 10am-11am

    403-762-6511 is the report from the avi guys and gals

    And a beacon/shovel. Bring 'em if you got 'em. Otherwise, you can rent in Banff - try Mountain Magic.

    This kind of crosses with another thread but do you think TSA will allow a shovel or a probe as carry on? Has anyone done it? Unless they fit in a garment bag I might need to rent.

    Sunshine generally has the better snow.

    The Lake generally has the better terrain, but the Dive at Sunhine is pretty sweet.

    Sunshine is like 10 minutes from Banff, but you need the 12 min gondola ride to the village. Lake Louise is more like a 1/2 hour from Banff (I can't quite remember, coming from Calgary it seems way longer to go the Lake) but you get out of your car and walk to the lift.

    I don't think you can go wrong with either one.

    Norquay ads claim their grooming is the best, if that's what your looking for.

    Fernie is 3 hours away and just got over a meter in the last week. Maybe that's a third option

    Kicking horse is 1.5 hrs from Banff, maybe another option.

    As far as cheap tickets. I think you can still buy Sushine cards for $65 CDN. This gets you your 1,4,7 day free and $12 off every other day you ski. It's worth it if you ski 2 days. $65=1 day lift ticket.

    SSV card stoped being on sale on Dec 25th I think .. not 100% sure

    banff to ....

    SSV = 20 min (+ gondola)

    LL = 45

    KH = 1.5

    fernie = 4

    castle = 3.5
