Same thing at The Canyons. Condor, Lookout, even Golden Eagle were all unbelievable. Didn't even make it to Peak 5/9990...but didn't need to.

Word is Baldy slid into Spring Valley not too long ago w/ a 5' crown. Secondhand info, so it may not be accurate.

I wouldn't count on the road opening anytime soon, folks.

Another storm is lined up behind this one. Hows about dat?

    Unhappy

    Good afternoon skiers,

This is the snow report from Alta at 2:00pm on Friday, December 26th.

Over 25” of new snow since closing yesterday make well over 3 FEET in the past 2 days! All that new snow brings settled snow base depth at mid-mountain to 83” and total snowfall already this season is 240”.

At this time, the road into Little Cottonwood Canyon is temporarily closed due to the threat of avalanche activity and the Town of Alta is under Interlodge restrictions. Unfortunately skiers, despite the best efforts of our crew on the mountain, it looks like Mother Nature got the upper hand today. We’re sorry to inform you that Alta Ski Area will not open today. In addition, the Canyon road will not open today and interlodge will remain in effect through the night. At this point, the weather forecast does look favorable to get the road open in the morning in time for a ski area opening at the normal time. This message will be updated if that information changes.

Right now in Alta, it is snowing hard, winds are moderate and gusty and it’s 17 degrees at the Wildcat Base.

Today's weather forecst calls for 8-14” of new snow with light to moderate Northwest winds and temperatures in the upper teens. Tonight, another 4-8" are likely with light to moderate NW winds and low temperature near 15 degrees. The extended forecast calls for 3-6" on Saturday, 2-5" Saturday night and another storm system to move into the Canyon on Monday.

This message will be updated at 5:00pm today or as soon as more information becomes available. Thanks for checking the snow report skiers. Have a Happy Holiday Season!

holy shit this is huge. Park City was damn good today, and there's more than enough now to work on a nice little hit on the back hill of my house in holladay. LCC's going to be absolutely epic when it opens.

where's spring valley that Baldy slid into?

Had a large crew up there today, iskibc, bumZ, MD9, Meats of evil, GT40, CS and friend, myself and stoy. Snow was getting deeper and lighter by the minute, my legs are hammered. I'll be up there in the am with advil in hand.
Bodies were hucked and flips were flipped, but i'll let the huckers tell that story.

Snow? Face Shots? Snorkel? Pfft... I just picked up a new leather jacket for 50-bucks. Now, if I can just find some black leather pants in size 44 I can hang with the MacDaddy.

Actually, being the only Minion at PowMow guess I'll have to give that report.

Freakin Deep. Deeper than this deep pow JONG has ever experienced. Yeah, snorkel would have been good. Seemed a tad heavy in the AM, and as the temp lowered got better. So glad I grew a beard for shit like this! Total Yeti effect after being buried by endless face, no way over the head shots. That place didn't even get close to tracked out, especially off Paradise. Simply could not get to where we wanted to go without a waist deep slog.

Didn't have to spend cash on dinner/drinks in SLC tonight due to weather, so I'll spend my bucks tommorrow at Basin. See you there. Blue/Grey NorthFace XXXXLpants/jacket, black Giro, blue Smiths, and uhhhhh, PR's.

    Powder Mountain Today!

Last night, as ColdSmoke and I were discussing today's game plan on the phone, I asked what plan B would be if the Cottonwoods didn't open by 8:30. He mocked me and thought I was crazy because the resorts had "too much to lose if they didn't open the day after Christmas and there would be no way that would happen." But, I made him commit to another resort nonetheless (otherwise he would have sat in line for hours--I've seen him do it).
Needless to say, when we were turned away at the mouth of LCC at 8:32 I invoked his choice for Plan B--PowMow. It turned out to be a very good call. As we were fading from cell range near Powder Mtn, at about 10:30 this morning, the last Cottonwood report we heard stated that there was no opening time for the Cottonwoods.
Powder Mtn had already received the same dumpage as Alta on the early report (20 overnight), and it puked all day without letting up. I won't be surprised if we hear on the news tonight that we were skiing on an official 40" new total by the end of the day. It certainly felt like it.
It was heavier density than we expected, causing the usual problems associated with the tamer slopes around the Ogden area, but we found good stuff bombing the runs down to shuttle while waiting for the Paradise quad to open. Paradise is PM's longest chair, a low-speed, fixed-grip dealio adequate enough to get us to some of PM's best offerings of the day.
All in all, it was a great way to spend an epic Utah powder day with the Cottonwoods denied...

    Talking

    sick sick sick.

We waited in the line at LCC for a little while, but once am 530 said "roads may open sometime in the afternoon" we took off for the basin and were rewarded for doing so. Same 2 day snow totals as Alta. Maggots went off. Before today only 4 maggots had hucked boss hog: phUnk, stoy, myself, and cliff huckstable. Today ski bum z and CS can both be added to that list and both got upside down. That place blows in so DEEEEEP. Someone went by to test the depth of the landing and sunk a pole completely. Visibility was sketch and none of the gates opened, but that just means we get to hit that stuff tomorrow.

With the way it is still puking out there I don't see LCC opening anytime early tomorrow. The darkness certainly isn't going to help them.

We'll be back at Basin tomorrow and we should have a pretty big crew.

I managed to my knee up through my chin guard and into my face on my second hog hit and have nice little shiner coming in.

GT shot video of all the boss hog tomfoolery. I'll try to get it posted when I get back to CO. I'm sure the next couple of days are just going to be better. This snow is nuts. Turns with any pitch at all are chest deep. You could jump off (or straightline)anything.

We just need some vis and [blasphemy] this snow to break for a little while[/blasphemy] so some avy control can get done and some gates can drop.

FRZ, get's scare of the day after ending up face down in a tree well for over 20 minutes. I can't say I've ever experienced anything like this, but hearing that more die from tree wells than slides I can only imagine it's pretty damn terrifying.

    Endless-
Wish I knew you and 'Smoke were up there today...did part of the day alone , but then hooked up with a couple of the mountain hosts and started lapping the steeper parts of Paradise till 2PM.

Heard one super-cool thing on the radio. The mountain manager was thinking about stopping Woody and the Shuttle due to bad road conditions and the bus overloading. Woody gets back on the radio and says,
"Quit?! This bus never quits!" End of conversation. Woody is the mang.

Lumpy-- I don't have your cell or I would have called you. I called the Maggot/Minion Central Switchboard Operator (MD9) and he didn't have it. I then posted a message here on the board (for the last 45 minutes we were in cell range) asking anyone for it, but no one replied.
I erased the post that had my phone number when I started getting some weird hang-up calls. http://endlessseason.com/smilies/headscratch.gif

Anyways, we'll have to try it another time...

We also did laps around LCC hoping the road would open. Once it started not looking so good, we headed over to BCC and made it up the canyon in the short period the road was open this morning. First time we ever skied Solitude. Absolutely beautiful. You could straighline a shot and get one continuous faceshot the whole way down. So lucky our timing was right this morning and we made it both up and down the road...

I hear ya, that was the word I got from roommate. And to think, the canyons was reporting 27, PC 26, and LCC 28.

How long was your drive up the mountain this morning powstash?

I think I'll be at le canyons tomorrow..
