    oh snap augustine erupted

Well mt Augustine erupted and is in between my girlfriend and I as she's flying home today shit they are acctully flying. First off I'm kinda freaked out because ash and planes generally don't mix

Secondly I'm excited volcanos are sweet!

Thirdly if ash falls in the turnagain pass area or the hatchers pass area the snowpack is gonna suck and probably kill someone (what does ash do to a snowpack?)
Its not that I suck at spelling, its that I just don't care

That's neat that the mountain errupted too bad about your girlfriend but I'm glad you're excited and I think ash will turn snow black and would kill you if you ate it and maybe you can look up the effects of volcanic ash and snow at your local library and after that go get a slurpee at the gas station and maybe check out some magazines.

Patrick, slow down just a bit bud. Write like you are capable of. I don't have the talent that many here do in regards to the TR's, but if you continue providing the stoke, I would say ramp it up a bit with good grammar and show us what you are made of.

(Yes, I should take my own advice too, as I often misspell and leave out lots of these ' )

    Good luck.

Though I'm curious about AKPM's girlfriend, I'm curiouser about what a layer of ash would do to the snowpack. Would be pretty cool to see a pit with a four inch ash layer halfway down.

Except "Ash" is not anticipated to go to anchorage.

Mount Augustine Volcano erupted early Wednesday, sending an ash plume an estimated 30,000 feet into the Alaska sky.

A pair of explosions at 4:44 a.m and 5:13 a.m. indicated the volcano probably had erupted, said geologist Jennifer Adleman of the Alaska Volcano Observatory said. Seismic activity has not continued since those explosions.

The plume advanced north but was expected to remain west of Anchorage, said Bob Hopkins, meteorologist in charge in the Anchorage office. A flight advisory was issued for pilots for an area 20 miles east and west of the volcano and about 50 miles north.

Wouldn't you be more freaked out that hot ash will melt your inflatable girlfriend?

While we didn't get ash in the Wasatch, 2 years ago we did get a big dust storm out of the desert. It left a nice brown layer in the snow, similar to the pic posted by 72Twenty. While it might not be good for bonding and the snowpack, it puts a nice time stamp in the snow pack. If you remember the date of the storm/ash, it gives you a time stamp for snow before and after that date.

It's like Cliff Notes Geology. A process that takes millions and millions of years represented in just one winter. Cool!

God bless you Odin. I've seen Bruce Campbell in the grocery store in Ashland on occasion looking for snowpack.

    Good news dude...no delays http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/fwmap.jsp.

Also, killer new technology on aircraft.....looks like planes have the capability of turning to avoid flying thru volcanic erruptions.

    storms

Hmmm...I am kinda wondering, how will all that ash floating around in the atmosphere will affect the storms being pumped out of the North Pacific? When will we see the affects and for how long?
