Yay or Nay?
Anyone have any opinions on this "magic" device? Thinking about picking one up for Africa trip.

I used one on a horsepacking trip through Chile and never got sick, but then again I also drank water straight from the streams as often as I drank the Miox'd water. YMMV.Originally Posted by bossass

Works nicely as you can purify a large quantity of water without doing a shitload of pumping. The magic technology it uses is pretty cool actually, and it's like the size a mini-maglite. But, you have to wait for like 30 mins for most bacteria, 4 hrs for viruses.
Here's a good review:

A big NAY on the MSR. Use AquaMira instead. Same thing but cheaper, easier, no batteries. If you want faster, get one of the UVC systems (UV Aquastar).
Yay, havendone several multiday trips in giqrdiq-rich environs without sequellae.
One other consideration is how bad the water you plan on drinking is. Is it from a nice crystal stream, or some gutter runoff that's pooled in a tire and is opaque?
I would think the MIOX/clones would be great for Montezuma's Revenge, but if the water is visually nast, I'd want to start with a charcoal filter.
