    Avy Course question

To-date, I've been strictly on-piste. Probably will stay that way... but...

my g/f really wants me to take this avy class at REI in redmond. It's the Gary Brill course, and wondering if it's worth the cost (which is $175 for three lectures plus one field trip).

thanks for whatever advice on this one.

If you are thinking about doing some BC touring, a rec avi course is a good idea. I can't say much about rec courses in the states, but the CAA courses are good. I just took my RAC course last month, and it was really infomative and it was only $100. It was great, we really got to pick the brains of two of the local patrolers who taught the course, who have loads of experience. After my RAC course, I am seriously considering taking my Advanced Rec. Course.

Gary really knows his stuff but only 1 field trip and a bunch of lectures? Seems unusual to have that mix

The field trip is an all day shindig, the lectures are three evenings (2.5 hours each). I really don't know what to expect, but glad to hear he knows his stuff. Here is the course outline.

    Thanks guys for the info.

You can pay extra and get the 2nd day in the field. Canadians, generally, in the US, Avy I is two lecutures and two days in the field.
