Snowboarder missing off Cypress in North Van

Missing more then 24 hours now - temps dropping - new snow of over 35cms and tracks were seen in Australian Gully basically a huge terrain trap.

Kinda expecting the worse at this point and hoping he's ok/

Also feeling terrible for North Shore SAR who have to go into what is basically a shooting gallery to search for the person all night. I hope its not a body recovery.

Quite the media gathering up on Cypress this morning, heard somewhere that the missing rider's buddy searched for five hours before calling notifying patrol. Hope all ends well

Been a pretty scary weekend... Earlier in the day, these were the top three headlines at CKNW...
I'm sick of following my dreams. I'm just gonna ask them where they're goin' and hook up with 'em later.

WEST VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - The search for a snowboarder lost on West Vancouver's Cypress Mountain may be over.

West Vancouver Police have confirmed rescue crews have found a body in the park around 1:45 this afternoon in the area known as Tony Baker gulley, but they are not saying if it is 22-year old Danny Epp of Abbotsford.

He's been the subject of a massive search since late Sunday afternoon.

Earlier today, Epp's friends and family were holding out hope he would be found alive.

New to the site here, came across this post just a minute ago, so i figured I would reply

Yes it was Danny's body that they found. Danny was a good friend of mine, I only met him in Feb 2002 while in Australia, but finding out we lived in neighboring towns, we hung out alot. He was supposed to visit me that winter and come boarding in Fernie. Danny was a guy who loved life and he always had that smile like he was always having the best time of his life. He died doing something he loved, for us it seems like it was early in his life, but most of us havent lived like he has, try everything, regret nothing. A memorable thing about him was a shirt that said Eddie would go, Danny was a short guy and the person who always went off the jump first or off the cliff or what not. So if you see a guy in Fernie or anywhere else with a sticker on his helmet, or shirt, that says Danny Would Go, you know that person was inspired by the life of Danny Epp and will not take this life for granted and have a blast doing every little thing in life.

Thanks guys. It definately changes perspective on alot of things. Last year was such a great snow year, but with all that snow comes alot of new dangers. In november and december there were so many reports of missing people, avalanche related injuries and even deaths, but it really hits home when you hear about the latest one and holy shit, it's your friend. I tell ya I had a rough sleep for days until they found him. When I got back from the funeral and up on the hill for the first time since, it's a strange feeling, a whole new respect for the mountain and it makes you want to enjoy life the way that he did.

Stay safe this comming winter! But don't forget to have a kick ass time

    My condolences.

I've seen his plaque on top of Mount Cheam and was wondering about the significance of the tree and the script under it.

I know Veritas means truth, but I am not sure of the meaning of the tree. Ill ask, where on Cheam is it? IM originally from Chilliwack so I have been up there numerous times.

It's at the summit along with 2 other plaques. Apparently there are plaques for Danny on Mt. Needle and Mt. Strachan too.

here is a quote from his mom about what it means
"Norm and I have decided to climb 22 mountain's in memory of Danny for each year we had him.
So far we have climbed 7 mountains.
The memorial medal was something we ourselves designed. Actually Danny's older brother designed most of it.
The tree of life which was a tatoo Danny had on his back. It was like a family tree and family was important to Danny.
VERITAS was another tatoo Danny had on his leg which means the word TRUTH in latin.
I'll never forget the day when Danny and I sat down and he asked me "Mom I want to get another tatoo and I have thought about what I want and put alot of thought into my choice, he said TRUTH is important to me so that is the reason he got the word VERITAS.
He also got 3 red star's. When I opened Danny's Bible one day after he passed away I discoverd in his bible 3 star's, someone had written Danny's stars and put it in his Bible so we think that is what they meant. That is the reason we put red in his memorial medal.
We also put his name in Hebrew on the medal as well."
