Boot Recommendations

I've come to the conclusion that my Salomon 1080 boots are now no longer able to keep up with my all-round general gnarliness (and fat ass). Basically the flex is so ridiculously soft I think it's hampering my ability to drive the skis well. As a result I'm skiing lazily on them a lot of the time and as a consequence not doing my knee any good.


But that's peripheral.



What I'm looking for is a wide fitting boot that's a good deal stiffer. Salomon and Tecnica tend to be the only boots I could get away with re: forefoot width but I hear Head boots have a pretty broad fit.

Any recommendations?

the 9 and 10 are the same except for the missing rivits on the 9.

Tecnica does not make a stiff boot anymore (other than race boots).

• try the Atomic M11 (or B11 if you are really wide)

Its pretty stiff by comparison to most pussy boots these days.
Nordica Speedmachine is a bit softer, but also roomy, and still stiffer than most (although beware of all the translucent shells which seem to get softer at warmer temps,a dn are only really stiff at cold temps).

I think they just have the plastic blanking caps there. A second rivet will stop the cuff hinging quite so much, yes?

Now it's my turn to say tech talk biatch.

I got one of the predecessors of Atomic's race boot. They are stable as hell with a really stiff shell. If you like it hard in every respect that's an option to go - I think they're called RT-series today (look at www.atomic.at).
That said be ready for a pain train of maybe several boot fittings to get the fit right (it took me 3 at least) or get a custom foam liner right away. They're also a pain to step in in the morning.

The guy i know has a set of brand new nordicas from a couple of seasons ago , never used for £90 but they're either 28.5 or 29.5 . Wide fitting though.

I have a set of Nordica beast 10's from last season that are supoer comfy for my supinated , high instep wide forefoor feet. I have no cramp or pressure with them.

Nordica's are great, wide boots. Gravitate to the stiffer end of the range though, as they seem to run squishy.

Those Nordica W8H boots look good but the sizing seems a little different to Salomon. With the Salomon boots a 29.0 Mondo equates to a size UK11. Wouldn't know what size would be the right pick.

I've sent him a message wondering whether I could return the boot if I tried it on and found it didn't fit width-wise.

I spoke with my guy at nordica and he said that the Beast 10's aren't made anymore. The most similiar foot last is now on the Speedmachine 10 which has some shock absorbingsections too.

I'd still go for the spoeedmachine 10's or 12's for their fit.

Ellis brigham do the 10's for £240 ....

Try the doberman 130, super wide up front. About the widest stiffest boot made.
I would not bother with the atomic. Cold, super spongy liner which makes the boot sluggish. Yes it is wide but that tritech technology needs to be retired.

I had the same problem and was forced into buying a new pair of boots recently. I have a wide foot as well and went with Nordica speedmachine 14. It was the only boot that grabbed my foot/heal where I wanted yet still had some room in the toe box. I skied them yesterday for the 1st time and so far they seem great. you have the option of 120 or 130 flex. Im 200 lbs so the 130 flex worked best for me. the only downside is the boots look like a fricken candy cane.
