The EC weather sucks

I have to call bullshit here.

I skied Pico this weekend and found the conditions to be OK at best and find it very difficult to believe Kmark had untracked powder all weekend long. Every Joey in jeans goes to Kmart and Pico was almost empty but then again I don't hit the HUGE cliffs of Killington like some.....

Skye Peak Liftline drop had nothing but rock shards for landings. Serious pointy rocks that would go right through that helmet and stick out a foot on the other side. No way anyone could have dropped that this weekend without being hauled out in a body bag. I did ski fresh tracks all day Saturday on Devils Fiddle and Needles Lift Line, but they were roped. By Sunday the freshies were gone. IMO there wasnt enough snow to drop anything more than 5', but maybe I value my joints more than others... I wasn't going to do any damage the week before 10 days in Tahoe.

At around noon on sunday. With two other people. I was standing above it and my buddy skied right by me and dropped/fell off it. I droped it skiers left heading hard skiers right, landing directly in front of the spear (the one on the left side). After we skied the rest of the line, I realized you could have probably hit it straight on in the middle, landing on a pillow about 10 feet out.

Also, there's a 15 footer to flat in the woods above it, clearly visable from the chair. My two buddies staircased the middle of it (like 5' then 10'), I rolled in and straight ran the left edge of it where it was covered with snow. Skier's right is a straight drop, which could have been done also, but I wasn't feeling up to it. There's also about a dozen ledges in the 5-10 foot range up there in those trees.

I love skiing that section of woods/liftline...but still way too sketchy for me. I don't like those landings where i got to stick it between to nasty rocks 3' apart and ski away. Especially when one of them is the biggest death spear on the planet. Props man, you got nuts. And I talked to someone who saw you guys from the chair above... If you were skiing Bear woods all day, I'm sure you found pow all day. I was afraid of the snakes.

quick gripe: what the hell sense does it make to groom only 1/2 of a trail? granted I'd rather not have them groom at all...anyways...I was comin in hot since what else is there to do on groomers than haull ass? anyways, came in hot over this knoll and realized they had only groomed 1/2 the trail, couldn't catch an edge so I went right into a shin-high snow wall which banana'd the shit out of my ski and sent me flying. definitely thought I was in for a world of hurt as I flew end over end but it ended up being the nicest snow on the mountain. which was good. only have one good Volkl G3 left, which sucks for my first day on the slopes...but at least I didn't ruin my spine.

the argument in this thread is rather humorous isn't it?? i mean, wtf!! conditions in ny are much different than sVt, nVT, nh, maine...or they could be the same!

imo...the conditions have been ok for early season east coast style. do we need more snow...f ya!!! when kinsman and tramline open, conditions are as good as it gets for nh, lets hope that happens fast!~

Maybe you suck. I was in the woods there today, and you were being very cavalier about your health and life of skis if you were hucking off of 10 foot cliffs this weekend. dude.

I'm new to this forum...that's my report and yes, it was pretty freakin' sweet. I've got four days a week free to ski Stowe/Mansfield for the rest of the winter so I'll try to post some trip reports here from time to time for some EC stoke.

Our man the powderfreak is a budding met himself and I'm sure he can give us details as the weekend draws near. Basically, look for a soaking rain Friday night into Saturday changing to snow Sat afternoon/evening. It should snow heavily through Sunday, so Sunday could be a good day if there's enough accumulation to cover the crust that will develop. It's going ot be cold and windy on Sunday - look for wind hold on the upper mtn. Still, lots of terrain can be accessed by the Valley House, Gate House, and Castlerock chairs, which are usually the ones open at Lincoln Peak on a windy day. Monday should be even better, less windy, and not as cold. Could be a good day to charge up to the top early to hit the untouched that will still be around on Spillsville, Paradise and the woods therein.
